There's this thing called bow compass, you might want to check it out. Excellent course btw, quite entertaining and easy to understand.

Loving these videos. Question on the easel topic...how does a wall easel work out for projects like these?

I don't see any reason why a wall easel would not work, considering a vertical position is desirable.

A wall easel works well as you are working sight-size on a master copy. A wall easel can be inconvenient when you are trying to view a 3D setup because you cannot adjust the angle.

I tried to self-teach this method to myself. However, this is the first time I've seen someone take measurements so close to the drawing. This way seems a lot easier, not having to go back and forth using the Sight Size method. I'm used to taping a spot on the floor about 3x the greatest width/length of the image. Are there any disadvantages to measuring so close to the drawings?

Hi Brandt, thank you for the question. The disadvantage to measuring so close to the drawing is that often students won't step back and conceive of the whole as well as they would using sight-size and a viewing spot that is further away. I chose to teach this online class this way because in my experience students have the best success with the limitation of no in-person instruction. In my atelier, I teach this method first and then progress to a method more similar to what you are describing.
