Are you still using the hard charcoal or have you switched to something softer? Thanks!

The instructor often prefers softer charcoal for rendering, but everyone in the atelier developed their own preferences. It is certainly possible to render with any hardness of charcoal as long as the technique for laying it down matches the charcoal. For example, it is important not to press too hard with hard charcoal because it can dent your paper.

Can you please recommend a paper to work on Bargue plates with graphite? Also, more important, at what size we should study these plates? I have an easel but dont have a wood board to put my big paper and work on there instead of small sized paper and on my table.. I hope you get what im trying to ask. Thanks much again. You are helping me a lot.

If you are using graphite I recommend drawing on Bristol paper - it can take a lot of erasing without falling apart.
