I wanted to put together a shorter video talking about the differences in the Bark River Bravo 1, Aurora and Gunny handles since I've mentioned them quite a bit lately.
Also, there are some comparisons between the Aurora and Canadian Special as I've mentioned them as having similar attributes as well.
Finally, I mention why I think the Aurora might be the best Barkie for my needs by making overall comparisons between the four knives.
This is simply commentary and comparisons. There is no footage from the field or any edge performances tests. Just a heads up, in case you find this sort of thing boring :)
As usual, I hope you find this helpful!
Cheers

I didn't know Aurora is such a light knife for its full size. I will need to pick one when I see a nice piece. Thank you!

This! This video is exactly the kind of thing I want to see in knife videos: in-depth, visual comparison of different handles (and blades for that matter but particularly the handles). All these knives look so similar when you're just trying to compare photos online. Getting them in-hand is the only way to really get a sense of them. Videos like this are the next best thing. Well done, sir, and thank you!

Excellent video! Very few knife reviewers spend as much time on the handle aspect of the knife review than you did. This discussion covered my exact concerns in selecting my next knife purchase . . . I have several Bark Rivers, but not the Aurora. I am considering a Canadian leaf blade design and have concern about the Bark River Canadian Special due to it's unique handle (made to Mike Stewart's hand size). As noted in your video, the Ambush Tundra is supposed to have a handle comparable to that of the Bark River Aurora with the unique Canadian Leaf blade design. Thank you for taking the time to produce this video as it was quite helpful.

On the facebook bark river page, Mike Stewart said that happens sometimes on wood scales. He did say when they leave the factory they are perfectly flush but sometimes dry out more later. He also said you can send it in and it is totally covered by their awesome warranty. Maybe you could add some oil to the wood and it will swell a little bit? By the way, that Olive Wood is Fricken Gorgeous !

Thanks Virtuo! Yes, the A2 Aurora, in the olivewood at least, is much lighter than I most would think for the size. My 3v in micarta was heavier. I'd love to know your thoughts, so as usual, I'll tune into your channel! Take care!

Very helpful review! It’s really hard to understand how these knives compare in size.

Hey, John! I agree, the Aurora handles are superb. The extra length I can see being generous for bigger hands. My best friend has gorilla hands - size 16 ring - and he loves the girth of the Bravo, but the Aurora is is next favorite. I loved the 3v as well. At the time, it was my highest $ knife so I sold it in order to try some others. Thats the only reason. I see myself picking up another 3v version in addition to the A2 perhaps, in the next 6 mo. Cheers!

I've been thinking about the Elmax. Yet another steel I haven't had the pleasure of trying. I think those two knives are superb choices. I like my Aurora in A2, but my original 3V version was better. Oh, well. The longer blade of the Aurora is very handy in wood use, esp. batoning, while the Gunny is just outstanding to use as a general tool! You'll probably end up like me, loving each in their own way! The Bravo is a thick, beast of a knife, yet I can't part with it. Ha! Enjoy your knives man!

You feel the pins because the wood has shrank. ....however. olive wood is used in wooden spoons for cooking. so very good handle.

I have 2 auroras one in 3v and one A2. I like the handles because I have big hands and their a good handle for someone with big hands. I really like both these knives I was wondering why you sold the 3v.
