One of the few good things about modern life is being able to see and hear from people that live far away. I enjoy the scrutiny that you give these knives and the modifications you perform on them. Very few things are perfect from the factory! Thank you for your thoughts, sir.

I've recently purchased an Aurora in Cru-wear. That knife is my favorite BR knife so far; but I also appreciate the Bushcrafter I & II -- I have them both, in 3V.

@@derioillumi9868 For the past year I've been more of a collector than a user, lol. The main point to get across is that the II is NOT a "big" knife. If I wanted to carry only one knife and had to choose between the two, it would be the II -- a "mid-size" knife that can do most jobs decently. The standard Bark River Bushcrafter is more of a carver than an all-around bushcrafting knife, IMO. As a contrast, the Aurora II DOES come nearer the territory of a "big" knife, vs the regular Aurora -- just sayin'. Overall, you won't do bad with any of the Auroras, Bushcrafters, and Bravos. I have about 20 Bark River knives, and they're all in those three types except I have all three of the Kepharts (4" in 3V, 5" in 4V, and mini in 3V -- but I'm more interested in the Kepharts than most people), and I just happened to take delivery TODAY of a Woodland Special in Cru-Wear -- and I find I'm not particularly crazy about the handle. Finally, I have a Gunny in Elmax and a JX5 Vengeful -- just to be funny, LOL (I wanted to have one huge Bark River -- but I also have a Bravo 2, which comes pretty close to the "huge" category, from my perspective). It's hard to stop buying Bark River knives; great steel and great form factor (usually). Keep the boxes and keep them in good condition and they will easily hold their value.

@@GetMeThere1 hey thanks for chiming in. I’m on the verge of buying 1 of 3 knives and I would highly appreciate your opinion. I’m debating between the Bushcrafter, Aurora, and EXT-1. I would mainly use this knife around the fire. I have a bigger knife for batoning larger pieces of wood, but now I’m interested in getting a smaller in comparison companion knife that can do some of the smaller tasks better like making feather sticks and a bit of carving. But also not too small so it can serve the purpose of doing above mentioned tasks solely on its own when I don’t have the bigger knife on me. Which is why I’m strongly considering the Bushcrafter II as well. Would love your perspective on steel and grind as well. Thanks 🙏
@GetMeThere1
@GetMeThere1 3 жыл бұрын
@@HarisBabic Regarding steel and Bark River, I really see no significant difference between their 3V and their Cru-wear. I also have a couple their knives in Elmax, which would likely hold an edge slightly longer. Still 3V would always be my choice for bushcrafting. And for bushcrafting, the Aurora and the Bushcrafter are awesome (and it sounds like the Bushcrafter II might be slightly longer than what you have in mind). To pick just one I'd choose the Aurora -- it's that perfect size where you can do almost anything yet it's still "handy." The main difference between the Aurora and the Bushcrafter is that the Aurora is "pointier," so it ADDS that to all the other features of the bushcrafter, giving you something extra. I've never heard of ANYONE being unhappy with the Aurora. I own 18 Bark River knives -- but no Fox River variants. They are "hunting" knives, and I've never found a need for a knife that is made strictly for hunting work -- I can gut and skin a deer with any knife, so I don't feel a need for a knife that's specialized for that.
@HarisBabic
@HarisBabic 3 жыл бұрын
@@GetMeThere1 that brings a lot of clarity. Thank you so much 🙏 It appeared to me that the Bushcrafter II and Aurora are pretty similar in length, are they significantly different in the hand in terms of size and fit? And I totally hear you about Aurora having that extra factor ! Also I was leaning toward Cruwear from the research I’ve done. Would 3V be the better choice for bushcraft? Sorry that may be a redundant question which you kind of already answered but I just wanted to make sure bc we hadn’t spoken about Cruwear. Thanks again !

Thank you for continued great videos, including your fishing and riverside lunch videos. A couple of years ago my daughter and I went to a river in our area and had sashimi just like you. It was great! Sir, I need your help. My younger daughter and her family are going to Osaka and Tokyo Japan on June 1 and she says that she wants to get me a knife for my birthday and Father's Day from. Where in either of those cities can she find a bushcraft or "bear defense" knife? She has looked at some knife shops, but they only seem to have cooking knives. Thank you for help.

So 30-40 minutes from factory to left side (against wood) flat and right side convex full resharpening. That gave you better feathering (finer) on the better handled knife. You started with custom mid height scandi-convex ground Bushcrafter 2.

@@user-cx7qh4df1e The micarta handle of the Bushcrafter is the best of all the BR handles for bushcraft. For bushcraft jobs the high-Scandi grind is the best and for general purposes the standard convex grind is the best. They will launch Bushcrafter LT in 3mm thickness soon, whose handle will be thin. @@JPSikaHunter Very nice, but your bush crafter doesn't have a scandi grind. It appears to be a high grind. I would agree that the higher more slicing geometry would would in this knife design on animals very well. The Scandi grind the current models come with wouldn't be ideal for game processing.

You are modifiying the blades, but never handles.I think you shuould do it, or put your own handle on a blade blank. Handle on a knife is as important as blade geometry, steel..., especially on a bushcraft knife. For example bushcraft knife must not have pronounced beek on the but of the knife, because if digs in the palm of the hand...

When I was a boy I had a air rifle, and I began killing the birds, and then when I looked at the amount of birds I killed I felt ashamed of myself and never killed another bird again. The shame come from killing for pleasure. Years later as an adult I was in a bad place where men? were doing bad things to other men out of childish evilness. And a man who were with the childish evil men stepped away from them and give me water and give the other prisoners with me water and he said I am sorry for them. You see he was a man and he recognised the weakness in the childish men. That had a lasting effect on me it made me strive to be a man among so many childish men. A man tries to be just in a world with so much injustice. He does what he has to do to deal with his enemies but in a manly way and not a spiteful child man way. I never kill animals for pleasure. I never hurt those who do not plan on hurting me. I try to stand out from the others as a man. Child men so much want to be a man and will praise any wickedness to show to other child men that they are manly hard inside. It is that need of the child man to impress other child men. A man who strives to be a man shows sympathy and does not follow the crowd the child men. I think you are a child man.
