BARN FIND 1950's CAT D6 Cable dozer! - WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

After sitting in the barn for a year since we last got this 1950's CAT D6 started for the first time in years I've finally have a project to use it on. That means it is time to get it started again and loaded onto a trailer something that I have never done before and am a little nervous about!

I have the same D6 Cat with a 318 6 IDI but has been converted to electric start. Having to put a new track on left side as it came off on 2nd day I had it. Great old dozer and will be using mine for clearing our land for our farm in east Texas. Love seeing these old beasts run!

I was holding my breath watching back on & pull off. My hubby was just shaking his head at me. It’s a guy thing, I know. I LOVED seeing Steve show up, all the young guys laughing in the background as he just turned it over. The Cat is such an awesome barn find Ben! Clean that old girl up & set her out for kids to look at during pumpkin picking!

I was sitting here on my couch here in Minnesota, watching the loading and unloading, and I even puckered. Thought I was gonna need the fire department to separate me from the cushion. Good lord!

@@iowANFarmerI’d have been just like you, wanting to keep hands off everything, but then you’re really feeling like a blind man w/ his hands up 🙌 waiting for the floor to drop out on a roller coaster w/o any big seatbelt or bar to protect you, much less the “coaster” / tractor. Hated loading/unloading our front loader on our farm as a kid whenever dad need us to, & that was on tires w/ a much shorter base overall obviously. Can’t imagine what that felt like. 👏

Back in the day, a good operator on those old cable machines could really do some pretty grading! Had to be adjusted correctly! Enjoy!

Yeah I've loaded and uploaded a ton of dozers and excavators there's always a little pucker factor.

My dad was loading his Dozer on my trailer and then all sudden it slid off to the side. It just sat there with one track off the trailer for a minute I thought it was going to roll over. Have a great day and a good weekend

I'm green with envy when I see you with that 9U. I'm still looking for an old D6 but out my way but there's only scrap metal with weeds growing between the tracks. Good job loading that ol' Cat backwards onto a less-than-ideal trailer: at least you didn't panic and started throwing levers.

I appreciate your show so much more now that ive trued to farm on my own. Ive been watching on and off for a long time, ive liked your show but wasnt wild about it. I was into the shows with lots of shiny equipment. But now i love your show because i see how much give a damn you have to grow. And you’re extremely talented.

They have a wonderful invention since that Dozer was built A low boy trailer You might try one next time you move the old girl certain portions of your body will be alot less tighter if you do but this made for great UTube content ROFLMAO I almost wet myself laughing at your shenanigans Have a great week Ben and good luck with your new venture

Hey for your first time you handled load that like an old hand! I’ve loaded and unloaded excavator’s and dozers 100’s of times and slid off the side a couple times with the dozer and I would have been nervous as hell with a hand clutch machine like that, lol

Be glad you have electric start for the pony motor. My dad had a old cat irrigation motor that he had to rope start.

I drove a D6 similar to yours 40 years ago for a farmer. We were moving rock piles. Definitely felt every rock I drove over. Lets say I was definitely stiff pile of sore muscles and joints after two days. Lets say the dozer operators in the 50's were a tuff breed. Bounce, lurch to the side, lurch to the other side of seat, bounch all day long. Made me long for time in the 1486 cultivating.

Good job loading and unloading D6 ! When you unloaded it maybe good you did not push the brake , if they are not even on both sides it may have turned on you half way off .
