Was the year 2000 working my school holidays and Saturday mornings in my pals garage Rip John! 800k on montego TD and one million one hundred and thirty six thousand on maestro ex taxi! Maestro had had hundreds of wheel bearings several gearboxes but was the original engine only came in for its second head gasket! Engine was well worn when I removed the cylinder head off it! W. Ould have gone on for another few thousand miles but was not worth the effort and it was scraped! Man local too me has ex met police montego estate that traveled Europe doing interpol work with over million miles on it too! I had a vanden plas with the talking computer and digital speedo. Auto choke packed in. To start it in the morning I drilled a hole in the air filter housing and squirted lighter gas in. It used to start with a bang but would go all day then. Went on our honeymoon in it to Towyn North Wales. Good car. Good times.

My first car, but from 1983. Same colour too - Signal Red. Rear arches rusted to nothing. Best thing I did was to remove the auto choke and install a manual version. Very reliable from then on. Super easy to work on and as you can see, loads for room in the engine bay.

The body flex was something to behold, on a bend I could put my fingers between the upper door frame and body. I had a new G reg company car and it crippled me, deafened me and shocked me so many times. I never tried the bead mats or the static strip, just learned to loath the car.

What do you expect from an 'A' Series, they will always start & run easy, first designed for the Austin A30 as an 803cc in which was launched in 1951, a little tip, don't put easy start in a stationany engine, always spray it whilst it is being cranked over, just add the old fuel a little bit at a time in a nearly full tank in the other Maestro to use it up

i had one of those in henley blue it was a 1991 1275cc H reg paid £150 from manheim auctions in 2003 6 mnths mot. did a twin carb conversion on it. ran a lot better and you could tell the difference and it kept up with the traffic better too. Got the full manifold and carbs for £40 off a mini Think they started life on a mg midget bolt off bolt on.then got some alloys to tidy it up as the steelies were badly rusted. each week i got paid from work would set money aside to make it into a tidy daily driver, other than oil services brake pads n tyres it just ran n ran n ran never let me down i had it for 3 years. passed it on to my dad whos car (vw polo saloon) had just failed its mot on a lot of welding. he had it for 4 years after me, When i used to pop down on my days off he was always out washing and polishing it. (he went through 3 tins of turtle wax a month) he loved it because he was a security man and getting to work he had to go up the motorway and it had a bit more power than the polo esp moving to the middle and outside lanes to overtake..

Had guessed your main maestro seemed familiar. Rego, wheel trims, tape covering the rust spots & the missing headliner, this being the uncommon Apple 2000 version that was also driven by Ian & Matt, of HubNut & furiousdriving respectively. But yes, a pretty clean one this low-distance example is, good to see one being put back on the road, hopefully.
@TattyOldCars
@TattyOldCars Жыл бұрын
It was Matt and JayEmm who did vids on it, offered it to Ian to film but he was too far away, sadly my original Maestro in this video won't be around for too much longer, it turns out on my inspections over the winter it had A LOT of hidden rot and is too far gone to restore so is being broken for bits, Oh well! At least this one will replace it for me and the parts from that car will go on to save many more.
@huleeyaxerssius7
@huleeyaxerssius7 Жыл бұрын
@@TattyOldCars Guess i was a bit mistaken there, but had watched JayEmm's video on it a bit ago too. And that's a shame there, the rot got to your one to such a level like that, where saving it isn't that feasible. Good thing you found this other one though, so your maestro journey can continue with it, which is a good thing & the other one will still go on to help others too.

If I discovered one of these in a barn, I’d run away screaming! Back in the 80s I would use my dad’s Maestro when I visited the UK from Australia, having the “luxury” of a Japanese car at home, I couldn’t believe what a woeful heap of crap the Maestro was. Even though my Dads was regularly serviced it would jump out of gear or stick in gear, Hopeless (scary) brakes, comical performance and had huge issues with build quality. Hopefully someone who worked in the factory and had a hand in throwing this hideous vehicle together will read this and cringe in shame

Nice content and you are a good speaker apart from the occasional annoying inflection, but please don't swear, people put KZfaq on the telly now in front of the kids and the grandma and saying s**t and b****ks isn't for everyone's palate or anyone who might sponsor you later.
