After owning the Evo this long, I'm finally coming to realize how many rust problems we have... so it's time to tackle them!

@@gaming_and_reality1018 yeah I recently just found Dustin too. I started out with small channels like Robbie Ferreira, built official, Kevin Malli, rarewitit, flying wheels, I think when I started really getting into KZfaq automotive channels I was really drawn to the channels where guys were learning and doing on their own and showing the mistakes they made and how they overcame them. True built not bought. It feels like so many channels now either have every high end tool available or have a whole crew wrenching for them or send cars out. It seems like Evan does alot with Drew but I do wish we saw more of it.....how many motors has he built in the last 3 months? At least 2 2jz plus the Evo motor. Would like to see more of that.

Should get the bottom and sub frames ice blasted, Raptor coat the under body, fuel tank etc, then like you said Devin did an amazing job on the Hyperblue EVO 8, love it when they go into detail and do it right.

Would definitely recommend dropping that rear subframe and restoring it. New bushings ect. Specially since you putting that new engine in and planning on making big power...

Absolutely. Foundational mods like bushings make a big difference whether a highly modified car can actually put down the power that it makes.

As a minnesotan, this getting called a major rust problem was an eye opener. My summer car has a hole in the fender and still was bought as "rust free"

You will have to drop the rear subframe to remove the gas tank, also you don’t have to drop the tank in order to do a nice fuel system. Unfortunately you can’t get a brand new usdm tank. You will either have to get a used one or you can still buy a brand new jdm tank which is only different because it doesn’t have a fuel temp sensor. I recommend you replace all the bushings in the rear subframe since it’ll be out and do a rear mustache bar delete

The soda blasting was really therapeutic but when you painted over the shell without any form of rust conversion or treatment to the metal it made me cringe 😅 I seriously recommend blasting the paint off, treating it properly and getting a spray nozzle to get inside the cavities otherwise all you’re doing is hiding the problem

Evan if you see this, I live in Austin. i used the same aerosol spray Bedliner on my BMW and it faded and looked like sheit. I know what you said about not using the best product, but after doing my s14 with "raptor liner" i can say it is 1000000% worth the extra effort. i used a paintbrush rather than spraying it, and it came out great on my wheel wells and frame rails.

People from the Southern states are so funny when it comes to rust. Evan, my man, that is not a "rust problem". That is literally surface rust that happens to all cars over time. That Evo is almost 20 years old and lived outside until you got it. You want to see rust, come to Ohio some time. Love the channel

The out line connecting to the the compressor to the reel in limiting you on air and that small line could possibly blow out because it’s not rated for that

I would replace the rubber undercoating with something more durable and less susceptible to trapping moisture. I have always been advised to avoid rubber based undercoatings because of moisture. bedliner I've heard is great for undercoating but its on the heavier side.
