In todays video, we get this crazy custom Nash Metropolitan back on the road for the first time since 1985! It's weird, different and absolutely One of a Kind! We saved the car 3 years ago, where it had been tucked away in a barn since 1985! Sadly it has been stuck on the backburner, but she's finally back! I really hope you all enjoy, this one was super fun! Thank you so much as always for the Love and Support!! I hope you all have a Great Weekend!

I love this small goofy rescues and I think they are awesome. Some people don't understand the fun of driving a small car with a small engine, specially this older ones. You feel the road, the wind, every gear.. :-) In my time I rescued from death a VW Rabbit convertible (yellow) we called Pikachu. Not much power, not much speed, but a blast to drive with the top down (well, missing). :-) Some of my first driving experience was in Spain on a mini, the original, old, sit on the floor mini. :-)

You have probably learned a lot more since you ran this video but here’s a bit of information on the Nash Metropolitan. The engine was an Austin A50. Austin and MG were 2 parts of the same company. The Metropolitan used the same engine as the MGA but because the Met body was taller than the MGA it was too heavy. To help remedy this Austin took the horsepower out of the MGA powerplant by using dish pistons, smaller valves, and a small 1 bbl carb instead of 2 carbs. This dropped the HP to 50. Now, you can do the MGA upgrade which brings the HP to 80 but, the rear axles are only rated for 50 HP. The seats on a Met were low, your but was probably about 2 inches off of the floor board. With the little HP the rear end ratio was 4:10 so the engine would have some acceleration, but it is hard to enter the freeway unless you get a long running start. They were really made to run in the city. You will notice that on the highway you will be running all out and hope you don’t hit any hills. But the Metropolitan has the same quirky appeal, driving it makes you smile and everybody smiles and waves at you when you pass by.

Call it the Not-Rod. It's not a hot rod, but there's no denying that it's cool. I'm smiling just watching it run around. I'm glad you didn't put it together before you were on KZfaq - we would've missed out on the fun!

A year ago I posted it was a rollover, I'm sticking to it. Was probably salvaged missing the roof, windshield, both doors with fender damage on all corners. Clever to use the dune buggy theme. Wheels, a lot of the Smiget crowd used the Vega G T units. I hope you can do something with the harsh windshield frame. I was turning 18.40 at York U S 30 in 1960 with my Metropolitan. Thanks for your efforts.

Very nice, what a cool little car! Just do yourself one favour: get a set of twin SU's off an MG B or MG A, a BMC B-series engine will run so much better and more importantly so much more responsive on those. They are very odd little carburettors if you aren't used to them, but once you understand how they work, you'll understand why you want/need them for this car.

I think the engine was an Austin B series (BMC) painted dark green or a maroon valve cover and engine for the MG variant. The MG variant would have had twin carbs

Mechanical fuel pumps can be a pain in the bum. Had a choice of 4 AC pumps, rebuilt them goodness knows how many times. No fuel then I thought why not connect a manual suction pump up to the outlet from said pump. It worked, car started up. At least when I drained the petrol tank out it was remarkably clean inside and no problems with removing the drain plug. I have to love those old Rootes built cars.

I would put the gauges where the radio knobs are and the hole for what even in the middle of the dash next to the ignition key below what looks like the air vent. I think it would of been a cleaner look and not interfere with passenger leg room.
