I met Barney in 1993 in Johannesburg when they toured SA after Utopia Banished. I think he'd come straight from the airport and looked pretty jet-lagged and hung-over. I swear he looks 10 years younger here than he did then.

Napalm Death really isn't my thing musically-speaking, but I went to watch them anyway at Metaldays and I was absolutely captivated by Barney's stage presence and just listening to him talking and the messages he was promoting, back-to-back with incredibly heavy aggressive music. Especially being a Brit, the Birmingham accent was killer (and also the fact he introduces Napalm Death as being from there as opposed to Britain/UK etc.).

i am basically not a friend of concrete political massages in music or arts in general, because i think that undermines and degrades the actual essence of art as a politicum by itself, but barney is a person who doesn`t bother me in this case. i don`t know why, but that`s it. a really good character that man.

To fully absorb a Napalm album you have to hear Barney talk about it. It is high level art that you don’t get unless you understand the concept(s) behind it. You can certainly enjoy the new record on a surface level and feed off the energy and breakneck speed of the band (and all the killer riffs), especially when you see them live...but if you don’t try to understand the the themes and dual meanings in Barney’s lyrics and think about the statement the album cover art is making, you miss a whole other dimension. Napalm Death are humanitarians first at their core and doing great work at the ground level. You may not agree with everything they stand for, but you cannot deny their intentions are to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Bellyful of salt and spleen made me feel very uncomfortable as a white middle class comfortable American. I tend to run away from these feelings but the song sticks in my crawl and holds my attention despite how uncomfortable it makes me feel.

Napalm Death are supposedly a Socialist band and yet their albums are so very expensive in a wonderfully capitalist way.

My girlfriend and her sister went to a metal fest and she disappeared for 2 weeks, Barney flew her to wherever he was. She told me some freaky shit...she made a huge mistake.

I heard the album and the killing joke type of songs suck..

Barney, do the people a favour and stay away from politics, since you have no clue about it. There are too many liars there already, we don't need yet another one there.
