Remember baron, you can sell metal. The AT M6s have a lot of metal in the legs and on the bottom which doesn't actually need to be there. Selling off 20 pieces would have gotten you the tech a lot faster.

the metal provides a lot of bearing on the legs, so bracing would probably collapse and break

@@Hydro123s it does provide a good amount, yes, but its also a very much excessive amount, at least to begin with. Building a full tower of bracing between the leg's will generally support it even when you pack the main body with stuff even if you have sold off a some of the legs metal. Even moreso if you have sold off some of the unnecessary metal on the bottom and back of the walker, metal which is largely useless for defence but does add a decent amount of weight.

@@Hydro123s true. You can't sell all the metal, not by a long shot, but you can definitely sell a bit, and metal is expensive.

@@Santisima_Trinidad The forward bit of the leg is vulnerable to high damage splash weapons, like cannons, rockets or warheads, and high damage weapons like lasers.

On the subject of walkers vs hovertanks, the repulsor systems that allow hovertanks to hover can be jammed, immobilizing the vehicle and the long legs of Imperial and First Order walkers was because the Republic found the cabins of the shorter AT-TEs were susceptible to anti-tank mines and long legs not only provided extra protection but higher firing platforms. Arguments can be made for wheeled and tracked vehicles, but there's no one solution to all the problems, but that's why AT-M6s had shorter steps, stockier legs, and cable cutters.

not to mention the AT-AT was designed with an intimidation factor in mind. Until the GCW there were no walker types of their scale. Now one could arge the Clones AT-TE was a much better design, and it in fact was.
