Nice little bit of lore! It is said the husk parasite doesn’t really take control of your nervous system or anything like that, rather, it slowly hollows out your body, and uses your empty carcass as an exoskeleton. Thus the name “Husk”. Cool!

This game is incredible, it tells great stories whilst still being a visually appealing and fun game.

i always took this for some 2D steampunk game, but no one ever told me it was set in space.

In single player campaigns you should clear out all the enemies in a wreck first; then you can go back to your sub to pick up two storage containers (they look like briefcases) to loot everything of value in just one or two trips. Large items like ammo boxes and depth charges aren't worth their own trip unless it's special ammo. This will make the looting process much faster.

Barotrauma is one of those games where you and your friends slowly descent into insanity and enjoy it. It follows mindset of “if you laugh the situation it’s that bad”. It supports both unserious and serious play styles, offering you all content it has as achievable with both of those. I remember playing with a friend who was new to our crew in Barotrauma so wasn’t very comfortable with us all and fairly fresh and in like 3 hours he ended up as an engineer who snatched several tobacco plants from wreck, welded himself in reactory and grew stuff to smoke in it for the entire game and we found out only when entire reactory was flooded. Everyone loved that guy and we always invited him to play with us later on

Real quick something you didn't mention that is good for struggling rookies. Some enemies are just looking for a meal. And they don't care what it is. Kill one of their own and they'll start eating it giving you time to get away, repair, kill more, or whatever else you need to do. Secondly. This was the absolute best review for this game I have ever seen. Very comprehensive, to the point and felt longer than it actually was in the best possible way.

For the single player I use a stack size mod to make items stack in the inventory better and a back pack mod to alliviate the fact that my ai are basically useless outside the sub and literally useless for looting. I recommend this to all single players and in general to be able to perform more missions for your play time. And considering i have to fight alone and loot alone i consider it quite fair

small correction EVERY medical item has a "Skill level" and it is effectively a "Do you meet it,Yes or No?" as a example ; Morphine is 100% effective at medical 35 and at 34 or below it has higher addiction rates,less effectiveness and so on If you want to read about this,head to the games files for medical items (says exact effects,exact requirements and so on,as well as other stuff) Otherwise past 72 esh ,medical skill might as well say hard caps

Fucking fantastic review! I would like to mention however, the abyss creatures don't have any relations to the shallower sea dwellers, nor are they final boss monsters. Although they do have a direct impact on the campaign map, they are more or less the guard dogs of the abyss. A punishment for unwise crews diving for rare resources found on islands or not taking care of leaks. But their brutal design does play into some very rewarding missions

Played the game for 4 hours. Decided to make my own sub. Made my own sub, it has 8 chainguns and 4 railguns, needs like 6 engineers to keep up. 10/10 would make AC130 Subship again.

8:00 you are supposed to bring a cargo crate which has massive space. You can easily clear a medium sized wreckage with only 2 trips using these.

Great review As a person who spends time in singleplayer your points on that mod(e) were spot on. Luckily in the next update, we will get new commands for the AI to help with looting and carrying items and such for ruins and submarines.

Good god. I came for more Barotrauma content, and I stayed for that incredible voice.

one thing about looting- when you loot a wreck you will generally find bodies laying around- if you put a tool belt on the body that's a whole other inventory's worth of loot you can drag around, and since its a body you can use your scooter at the same time. Between that and learning what loot has the greatest value it's totally possible to loot a one of the larger wrecks- including some ammo boxes- in 15-20 minutes tops

Screaming & Drowning Simulator 2019. I freaking love this game, everything about it. And you're 100% right, this game THRIVES in multiplayer, grab some friends, grab some beers, put 4 hours aside and enjoy the absolute bonkers shenanigans while screaming and drowning in the dark depths under the ice.

About the part of inventory space: When you buy something from an outpost, it gets delivered with a crate. You can use this crate while exploring wrecks to massively increase your inventory size. (im at 8:12 now, dont know if he already said something about that)

I only recently got Barotrauma and its been some of the best fun I've had on my twitch stream with my friends. A hella good video on Barotrauma. One thing to note.. The starting sub; Dugong is actually hella good. Simple layout, good placement of guns. Only thing that's actually a downside is the lack of fabricators.

Not only the lore, but the gameplay style with the darkness and atmosphere makes this a one of a kind game in an underrated subcategory or videogames.

Just got this on sale for under $8. I'm having a blast, but I feel like the $30 price point makes a lot of people (myself included) not even willing to give it a chance. I never even gave it a second glance until it was on sale. Definitely worth $8 though, probably even $15.

I find that simply creating a hosted room, giving it some descriptive name makes it super easy for other people to jump into your game

I find Alien Artifacts are worth it if you make the artifact containment case. It takes up a normal inventory slot, freeing up your hands and also preventing the artifact from inflicting negative effects on you and your sub.

Between the music, speaking style, and Military Channel like documentary vision - one of the best reviews for a game in a while. I had to pause at minute 16 because I was laughing so hard and tears were obscuring my view. Too funny, but strangely I feel like I need to also sink in at least 100 hours into this.

I think the recent changes to the game, AND the crew member AI, makes taking them along a bit more reliably. At least the capability to send them back with enough ease, and the recent change letting you access their inventories. But what are your thoughts on it?

The really cool thing is that since this review, there's been at least 3 major updates adding or overhauling new content. I spent around 7 bucks on it and my weekend just evaporated

8:10 you can just stun your mechanics/engineers, taking their toolbelt or take a storage container if that is available on your sub. It helps TREMENDOUSLY for this job.

Dude me and a guy were on a sub that was falling apart on a 16 person server and everyone was going crazy so me and him grabbed a bunch of shit and took an escape shuttle to an abandoned station before a kill squad showed up and took everyone out. But then once we got back to the sub we mined our way into the armory, got guns and started killing the kill squad one by one until only 4 kill squad guys were left. So instead of fighting them we went to their sub and exploded ut. Then we repaired our sub and completed the mission. 10/10 game

worth mentioning that crawler's can also get infected by the husk parasite, and are a source of infection at times also, crawlers are cannibalistic and will eat their dead, an easy way to get them off your tail is by killing some of them as they are approaching your sub, they will then quickly eat their dead giving you some time to get more distance. also also, god damn that sonar screen at 18:23 when the endworm can be seen attacking the pirate sub, amazing

9:00 about the speed issue, you are wearing an abyss suit in these clips, which slows you down a VERY LARGE amount, a combat dive suit, on the other hand, has far better speed.

For clearing wreaks i find its more efficient to clear the monsters and grab what you can stack then come back with a crate to get the rest. Yea the travel is slower but you'll probably only need 1 trip. Even better if you can get one of those briefcase storage containers since they only use one hand.

I agree with most of what you said, except for turning los onto none. I feel like having the line of sight adds a lot to this game. Never really knowing whats outside your ship unless you go on a gun or leave. Not knowing what could be in the next room if the door doesn't have a window. Some of the funniest moments when me and my friends play come from us not knowing something is in our ship until we open a door and 5 mudraptors come charging at us. Or exiting the airlock and seeing 15 crawlers standing there waiting for you

5:02 is the most relatable thing, and usually the reason why I rarely see campaign saves with AI medics.

When I just starting this game I always had active radar on and for some reason even though I wasn’t at low depth I was diving outside the ship and forgot to turn of the radar and in front of me I found a gigantic creature( I later found out it was a endworm) I nearly fell out of my seat from then on I almost never use activate radar unless it’s on directional ping.

Don't turn off line of sight! It adds so much of the claustrophobic element. As well as the need to communicate more.

The patterning noticed is that in all the most popular videos you never really hear about exploring outside the ship. All the horror comes from the deep, creatures of the deep, or your own crew.

I bought 3 copies 1 for me, my brother and my friend after he got his steam deck it works for all of us and we all had a great time on a small sub. I would say its a definite buy but on sale id argue that $30 at least imo is a bit much for a game like this. If I had to do the same purchase to get me and my 2 mates on board at full price it would require $90 the price doesn't make it easy for you to get your friends on board as that's where the game really shines. On its own in singleplayer its still a really solid game and is still very much enjoyable, and imo this game is a absolute highlight of Steams greenlight program with so much creative freedom and how light the game is its great and the fact that its still being worked on years later is amazing. But id argue $10 to $15 on its own or maybe $20 with a 4 pack option as a lot of games suffer from that dilemma where you really have to shell out LOTS of money to play with friends and Barotrauma is suffering from that very same problem takeing $120 to bring you and 3 others on board. A 4 pack would help alleviate that issue and a price cut down to 20 with a 4 pack would cut the bulk buying for 4 people in half to a more reasonable $60, some may call me a cheapskate but that's how I feel. Id complain about this more but thankfully Barotrauma goes on sale as frequently as other games on the steam store which can be utilized to buy enough copies for you and your friends for the price of 1 but any other day id pass on buying it off of price point alone. TL:DR - The Game is extremely solid and good especially with it still being updated years later. But purchasing the game in bulk is prohibitively expensive thus makes it hard for someone to introduce it to a group of friends even the base price point id argue is quite a bit much for a single person.

Geez seeing as this footage was made a year ago, so I think before stuff like cargo scooters or Exosuit were added which are just mobile storage containers, and also we were given artifact cases to be able to pack artifact into it and then pack it into inventory slot, now exploration isn't really that tedious even if still time-consuming

i cannot count the amount of times me and my friends have played pirate missions together and gotten rammed into the ocean floor and completely stuck

If indeed you still poses a functioning ship and a functioning circulatory system, dispose of the remains. *REMINDER! the clown can never be dead enough.*

Role played in this before the game was even on steam and continue to. This game is amazing and delivers a quiet desperation in isolation.

When you go outsiders your submarine grab a flare, if you throw flare on your way if there monsters they are start attacking the flare, when that happens you can shoot them or throw a grenade, and if you don’t have any flare you have to kill one of them so the others eat the dead one, and if you wire your diving suit slots into a power source their oxygen will fill up automatically :3

Combat abilities have evolved I believe, I often find dead threshers and mudraptors inside my sub that my bots murdered.

2023: We're getting ready for the 1.0 patch. Got this game 2 weeks ago. The chaos and stories are equally outlandish, but the dread that seeps in when you see a pack of Threshers or Raptors never gets old.

Wait you can change LOS? That seems a bit cheaty to me, the lack of sight really contributes to the experience. It’s like having X-ray in Minecraft.

Just picked it up aaaaand ... Yup, great game. I just wish there was an AI preset for "empty the air tank rack and come with me! If anything attacks: you commit an incredible act of bravery by becoming fish food in my stead" - because if you are like me and do not have a lot of play time (5h a week tops), multiplayer isn't an option.
