You're actually supposed to carry out missions that are issued to you by stations. They can be to either deliver cargo from one outpost to another, salvage/investigate a wreck or ruin, or eliminate a specific monster. You can either work together, or not at all. They choose "not at all"

Undersea outpost log #187: Today the supply submarine arrived, though strangely even though it successfully arrived, the entire crew appears to be either dead or missing. The strangest case is the captain himself, who was clearly ripped to shreds by a harpoon gun fish, except his body was found on the bridge. Very strange, but at least we got our supplies.

This reminds me of that time when I was playing as captain and my whole crew started attacking me, So when everyone was piling on top of me trying to kill me, I shot out the overhead window and got to a safe place as I watched everyone drown.

@@MrPeanut624 That's not true at all. It's supposed to be an improved and more modernized take on SS13, but the developers of Barotrauma had nothing to do with the development of the original SS13 or any of its derivative codebases.
