the Italian's are absolute artisan's on anything they build, or design. really incredible. who need's an older age worn weapon, when you can have a new precision made replica that is better made and safer than the older original.

I have worked in manufacturing for 40+ years most of it as a manufacturing engineer. Pedersoli has an exceptional barrel making process. Lapped bores have better finishes but also better precision. I was surprised by the exterior lapping process on the octagon barrels. Pedersoli should be proud of that factory.

With about 600 years of experience, the Italians have made some of the finest firearms (many historical, such as the greatest of the wheelock rifles of yore). Italians always seem to have a pride to their work, which is very important when it comes to quality.

I recently purchased a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken. It's a beautiful muzzleloader; it ranks close to most customs in fit in finish. One thing customs don't have on the particular sample I own is accuracy ! The barrel on mine is superbly accurate; it shoots ragged one hole groups all day. The barrel is polished so smooth and finished so well that it's almost effortless to load and ram the balls home, each and every shot.

One thing that came through that whole video: the pride in which He spoke of his products. Not many people have that these days. If more business owners did, the world would be a much better place......

Amazing inside view of this factory.. Mr Pedersoli seems like a gentleman who knows his gun making and is in tune with the operations at his factory. Great tour. It's always cool to see behind the scenes, candid environments such as these. I've seen these guns and wondered about the craftsmanship... good to know there's still an old fashion gun maker on this planet.. and this is what he looks like.

I volunteer as a solder for State and National parks in America. I recently finished my fifth consecutive year in 2018 at Fort Stawix NY where we use the Pedersoli made British long and short land firelock , and French Charleville firelock, exclusively. In the past the Fort purchased some Indian made knock offs , but they'er just not as good, visually and quality wise. These videos are very informative , and I will pass them on to my fellows at the park, if they haven't already seen them. Thanks for sharing these with us. A great company , and wonderful product, functionally and visually, I'm spoiled for anything else.

I recently bought one of their P53 3 band Enfields. I must say the barrel is very well done. The bore and rifling is fantastic, and the bluing is excellent. This company pays a great deal of attention to the smallest of details.

No wonder Pedersoli guns are top in the world of black powder shooting. It's amazing how many steps are taken into making a barrel and cannot imagine how long it used to take a single craftsman to make one back in the times of cottage industry gun making. By "asperities" he meant roughness as being flattened or ironed down by a button that acts on the groove. Obviously that shows care from the part of the manufacturer.

Henry and Spencer barrels where made by the deep hole drilling method which is nothing more than drilling a hole on a bar of steel, then it was reamed and finally rifled by the sine method. The barrels of Springfield, Remington Zouave and the British made Enfield P53 were made by wrapping a flat bar of steel around a madrel lenghtwise at a very hot temperature and forge welded into a rough shaped tube that was then drilled, reamed, rifled, etc. The outside was hand contoured on huge grinders.

Yes, pulled broach, 1 groove at a time. Some barrels were flat stock wrapped around a small rod and hammer welded by a blacksmith. [Prone to impurities and weak spots] Some "bar stock" was available, then drilled and riffled in jigs.

I was wondering how a lead bullet would do in a barrel with polygonal rifling. Are there any repro guns out there, that come with polygonal rifling? A Pedersoli Sharps with cold hammer forged barrel would be nice.
@capandball10 жыл бұрын
Hi! It is very hard to make the production of cold hammer forged rifling cost effective, unless you can produce serious numbers (10000+). And broach rifled barrels (if they are done the proper way) are better than hammr forged ridlings. There are polygonal rifled repros: the Wihitworth Parker Hale and Euroarms Whitworth rifles had hexagonal rifling. They can be found as used items, unfortunately they are not in production anymore.

Even though it might make sense to have equipped soldiers with repeaters they simply could not have made enough and a cartridge making industry for the muzzle loaders was well in place. The powers that be in any case decided against arming soldiers with repeaters because they thought, quite wisely, that the soldiers would use the rate of fire instead of aiming. The cavalry was armed with the Spencer repeating rifles.

@ChucksSEADnDEAD9 жыл бұрын
adolfhilter To be honest, barrels predate CNC machines by centuries. CNC machines are a natural evolution of metal working techniques. And trust me, those machines are very expensive and very precise. A CNC mill is a very generalist tool, these are specific for deep hole work, and even more specifically gun barrel making. Since it's in less demand than generalist tools, specialized machines and tools are often very expensive. Same thing with stamping guns. A stamped steel gun has cheap manufacture, but you need expensive pressing machinery and expensive, precisely engineered stamp molds. That's why everyone seems to have got into the market of making AR15 receivers or even other parts. Because a mill is just a mill.
