For the love of Barrel Racing lets try to help each other out and not cut each other down. Maybe say "so and so" should watch "so and so".
Which barrel racer do you recommend for beginners to watch or who did you feel did an awesome job? This video is part 2 riders 44 to 83 plus the last 8 Pee Wee riders if you were one of the barrel racers

It's amazing how many people that don't understand a sport comment about it. Barrel racing isn't a precision sport. It's about speed. You aren't judged by how pretty everything looks. You're judged by how fast you can correctly make the course. You have to train the horse to make the turns, but a lot of it comes from how well the rider can ride the horse. Ripping at their mouths isn't going help, but putting on a noseband to close their mouth or a tie down to keep their nostrils below their eyeballs will. Kicking the crap out of a horse is going to make them scrunch up because, shocker, it hurts, but kicking some to make sure you get all the way around the barrel helps to keep them standing. Push them going into the barrels and push them coming out. Using the whip when running home isn't a mean thing to do. Give them some encouragement as they leave the third barrel so they can accelerate faster. It isn't going to change their top speed, but the faster they can reach it, the faster the time. When you're running a 17 second pattern, there's not a lot of time to think. You do what you need to in the half second you have to decide what to do. Giving a couple little taps on the rein as you approach helps let them know it's time to dig in, but jerking a horse around makes it fight you. Whip a horse really hard and they're going to tuck their but under, which will slow them down. A lot of whips have two leather pieces at the end, which make a nice slap sound on their own. It's not always easy to get a clean swat in when you have seven seconds until you need to stop. With my horses, feet are for sideways, pivoting, and backing. Clicks pick up from a slow trot to a slow lope. Kissing and an occasional swat mean to go faster. Unless you're the one who trained the horse and rides it all the time, you don't know how they'll respond to your cues. Barrel racing is one of those things were there's multiple good ways to do it. Compared to some of the people I've ran against, these people are pretty nice to their horses. These people at least make their patterns and have pretty good times overall. Of course, you'll find people who do it wrong in every crowd, no matter what they do. Oh, and it doesn't matter if a person is a bit on the heavy side. A heavy people has just as much right to enjoy riding as a thin person does. As long as you can get on and have a horse big enough for you, it shouldn't matter how much you weigh. You'd think people would be a bit more considerate towards others.

@@shondagasmann1464 seriously? That's your ignorant response? You saw it too, you know it's not good behavior. Instead of condoning what she and Brandy are doing, help them to become better riders. You are a good rider Shonda. What I see for you is good times, but your weight is a huge problem for the horse. At 250 pounds you need a horse that weighs 1250 minimum. I'm sure your saddle is another 30. It's NOT good on their spines, lungs, legs, anything.

everyone is doing well but as for brandy I'd disqualify her for nnb the fact she beats on those horse obviously your technique isn't working so try something like quit yanking on mouth beating with the whip and spurring the hell out of your horse

If the club can disqualify Brandi that would be the best decision. She and her sister Brianna need a lot more training. Emily, Shonda, Terra, Toni, Karen, Brenda, and others could go on a solid Keto diet for 6 months before thinking about mounting a horse again.

I agree to some extent the Howard tride. I would never jump on them for how they where probably taught. I just wish some would see that they are having the same problem over and over like over turning or wide turns whatever the case, would see that what they are doing and no I'm not ragging on Brady but she is one of them I wish would try a different technique and try to improve instead of doing the samething and getting the same results on all there horses. Whipping and yanking on there mouth isn't the answer, practice practice practice and consistency is a good motivation when training or even keeping a seasoned horse in tuned. Never be to proud or embarrassed to ask someone else that might help you see what you might be missing to improve your run. No one is perfect but I learn from watching others and there techniques I try them if it works great if not I try something else till me and my horse work together as one. I've been training barrel horses for over 20 years and if it wasn't for all the advice and just watching everyone I wouldn't be what I am today. Ty so much for these videos again I love watching everyone grow and horses enjoy what they do. Ok I'm done sorry for the book

Some horses just need motivation to go. Squeezing with your legs doesn't doesn't always mean go. With my horse, that means back up. Verbal cues mean to pick up the next gait without going faster. If he needs to go fast, it takes the whip to get him to go because he's been taught that the whip is the signal for speed. Slow trot to slow lope? Click or kiss. Slow trot to fast trot? Tap with the whip. Lope departure? Click click and a little leg so he knows what lead. Take off? Whip. Most barrel horses are taught that legs are for keeping the right distance around the barrel and the whip is for changing gears. It's not like English riding. You have big bulky stirrups on leathers that cover everything. Half the time when you spur when running, you're hitting the back cinch. When you use spurs going slow, you barely touch them. Some of them also just don't want to go. Some are just lazy even if they're perfectly capable and totally sound. Some horses are buttholes that respond better with a whip than without. Some won't push themselves without being pushed. A lot of it depends on personality. Besides, it's not often that you get a good clean hit in that hurts very much. Most of the time, you're grazing up or down their butt, which doesn't hurt. Half the time you hear a slap, it's the leather end of the whip snapping itself. Over/under whips make more sound than contact since they are leather and leather can snap. When you use those, you're pulling the whip to the other side before it it's reached the horse, and makes a nice little pop at the end. The only thing that really guarantees a good clean slap is a riding crop, and most barrel racers don't carry them. It's easy to drop them and hard to aim when running home. It takes years of repetition before a horse is going to be automatic and just go without needing to be told, and most people don't have years to wait. Plus, that time is spend using the whip to push them home. Horses can run at over 40mph, but barrel horses usually only top out at 25 to 30mhp. It takes the whip to get them to accelerate so they can reach their top speed faster. The whip might not increase top speed, but it increases acceleration, and that's one of the most important things in barrel racing.

@@kuroshi2798 that doesn’t really justify shit. Seeing how some of those riders whip their horses, does that look comfortable to you? They aren’t your damn machines, and I have been hit with an over under and other crops and whips and all of them hurt. I can guarantee those sounds are most definitely the whip making contact with the horse. Stop throwing out a bs justification for abuse
@kuroshi2798
@kuroshi2798 Жыл бұрын
@@kdequestrian5471 it sounds like you need to learn how to read. I said that when the spurs hit them to accelerate, you're almost always hitting the back cinch. How do I know? Because I use a back cinch and it always sits exactly where my spurs would go. It results in less force than if I kicked without the spurs. Hitting the back cinch not only blocks the spurs, but distributes the force over a much larger area. And I also said that an over under, which most barrel racers use, snaps like a bull whip and makes a lot of noise when it isn't hitting them. If you knew what they felt like as you claim, you'd know that a nice and loose one can easily snap against itself and make a loud sound. You really think people have a lot of control over those things when they're trying to get ahold of it and use in in the 8 seconds you're running from the third barrel to the timer? The answer is no. Most of the sound that comes out of it is it snapping in the air like whips tend to do in open air. Most of the contact it makes is sliding up the horse's butt, which doesn't hurt. I personally use a crop because I can wiggle my wrist to do little tiny taps on them as encouragement. It gives me great control over where I'm touching and the force I'm using. I wouldn't hesitate to do to my face what I do to them because I've done it to my legs and it doesn't hurt at all. And I'd suggest getting spurred through a thick leather back cinch so you can see what they're actually feeling. It's not much. Do I agree with the people that starfish and kick with all their might and whip like their life depends on it? Absolutely not. Do I know how what I do to my horse feels and know it isn't painful? Yes. Does my horse run full steam ahead without the whip? No. I taught my horse not to take off unless told to, so she does really flatten out and go when it touches her. My newest prospect came off the race track, so she bolts when I kiss at her. I never carry a whip with her. Have I ridden horses that were fully vetted and just bucked every now and then because they had bad attitudes? On occasion. It would usually take a solid swat to get them out of a buck, and then we could go back to calmly walking. A horse should enjoy their job and and want to work for you, and you can't beat them every time they run and expect them to enjoy it. My horses walk right up the alley and go in the arena ears forward and excited. If they hated it, they wouldn't be so happy about it. Maybe see what actually happens with the equipment used before you label it as abusive. Again, I don't agree with wailing on a horse when it's already going, but I stopped using an over under after trying to use one for a couple months because I hated the way it snap crackle popped without even doing what I wanted it to do.

@@kuroshi2798 you have to understand if your spurs hit your back cinch cool, but I will say this right now a LOT of those riders are not kicking the back cinch. And yes I’m talking about the people wailing on their horses. There’s no reason why they should need to whip the shit out of their horses to get a faster time. That’s all I’m saying. Especially seeing all of the begginers given spurs and whips, tools that only experienced and knowledgeable riders should handle and with good horsemanship.
