I did a fierce burn in my barrel before painting, then pressure washed it. Don't know if that is a big factor, but my high temp paint is holding tightly.

Thanks for the comment. I had burned off the paint before hand but I used a blow torch. I think it was the paint as the black paint I used has been fine. It’s a shame as the red looked really good. What colour did you use ?

Black. I figure your black is now holding fast as you did an internal burn after you did the red. Can't really know, but is a theory. Or maybe the black is better. @@TheRuralProject

Awesome video! Ty! I just purchased a barrel kit myself.. now, looking for a steel drum and cheap pipe for an uninsulated garage (wood frame / wood sheeting with aluminum outside siding).. I'm going to go up 2 ft from stove, 90° elbow straight through wall, 90° elbow outside to go up and use bracket at middle to attach to siding wall.. then, bracket 1 ft below top of pipe at gutter. Does this sound efficient, to you? Any idea where I can get cheap pipe, a pipe topper / flash guard.. any recommendations on how you would put it through the wall? A wall nut? I had thought of just cutting a nice size square out between 2x4's, leaving an inch lip of wall then, attaching a larger square steel plate the would be on siding side (outside) and inside to attach with screws all around on lip left of wall.. then, cutting 6" circles out in middle on both to run 6" stove pipe through.. would that work as good as a wall nut? As far as painting your barrel, would you recommend painting the inside to prevent rust when not using burner? Sorry for so many questions.. I'd like to not burn my garage down lol..

hey Ziggy, thanks for watching. You'll find the barrel stoves kick out loads of heat so that garage will soon warm up. I've always tried to avoid having bends in the flue, makes cleaning it easier if its straight, if you can run the flue inside you will get more heat out too as the flue gets hot. I got my barrel off facebook market place, there was plenty for sale. If its timber frame garage I do some googling about how to do that, mine was a tin garage and thus easier and less risky. Waste of time painting the inside in my opinion, but I have seen people line them with firebricks to protect the barrel walls. best of luck.

Solid. The Scandia paint has lasted the test of time. Maybe that’s why all wood fires are black 🤔

Yep, could have done that. I will use the threaded capped hole in the future as another air inlet with a control valve on it. I should have mentioned that.

How did you reach the bolts on the inside for the pipe?
