The Barrett REC7 is a powerful and reliable rifle styled in the familiar AR configuration. It’s a no-nonsense rifle designed specifically for those who must have a completely trustworthy, compact rifle that requires little maintenance and delivers conclusive results.
The REC7’s dependability stems from its innovative operating system. Using a minimum number of parts, a piston system separates heat and powder residue from the bolt carrier and trigger assembly. The rifle runs cool and clean resulting in increased cleaning intervals and reduced likelihood of stoppage.
The 17-4 stainless piston moves energy captured in the chrome-lined gas block to the bolt carrier. The bolt carrier, machined from a monolithic block of 8620 steel, features a piston strikeface that is integral to it. There is no separate gas key to shoot loose. The chrome-plated bolt is silky smooth, easy to clean, free of gas rings, and is purposely sized for the 6.8 SPC cartridge.
At the heart of the system is the chrome-plated gas regulator that retains the piston. The piston can be accessed through the gas block without removing the handguard, optical sights do not need to be rezeroed after routine maintenance. The top of the gas block also has an integral 1913 rail, extending the rail length for mounting accessories.
The REC7’s forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers are type 3 hardcoat anodized. The lower houses an ultra-dependable, single-stage combat trigger. The upper supports a free-floated, 16-inch, chrome-lined barrel with M-4 feed ramps machined into both receiver and the barrel extension. An efficient A-2 style flash hider reduces recoil. The REC7 is optimized for optical sights and its A.R.M.S. 50 M-CV mounting system is ideal for user-specified accessories.
The REC7 is ideal for hunting medium-sized game, and it’s fun to shoot. It was also built for someone whose life depends on a gun that works both in his hands and down range.
The REC7 is what you expect in a Barrett. Reliable. Powerful.

Fantastic piece of equipment, more durable and higher stopping power than an M16 with the same accuracy, what's not to love.

I cant wait to buy this rifle. Now I am also going to buy the Knight Armament SR 15 MOD1. One of the best DI rifles on the market today. I really like the Barrett piston design. Another rifle to check out is the LWRC M6 556 and the REPR 7.62 I will have to post videos of the rifles in action at the range. I really like the Robinson Arms XCR in 6.8SPC. She runs like a sewing machine.

@NoahHoe ya know I'm pretty sure that it won't affect you a whole lot while firing it. Its an open sight so you're accuracy is gonna be pretty much the same at all times. And if you didn't notice, the guy was doing a rapid fire, so accuracy pretty much goes out the window at that point. Especially with a semi auto. If it was something to worry about I'm sure Barrett would make a recall and fix it.

I love the Rec 7... but I wish it could change round types like the Remington/Bushmaster ACR (A.K.A Magpul Masada). It the Rec 7 did that, it would be the ultimate assault rifle. I hope Barret comes across this suggestion and takes it into consideration. The ACR is your rifle's main competition.

@kord127 DIDNT SAY AK IS LARGER MAG, SAID IT WAS MORE DURABLE. EARLY STANAG MAGS, HAD FLIMSY FEED LIPS THAT WOULD BEND OR WARP WITH ROUGH USE. THE AK'S MAG WAS BUILT TOUGH TO WITHSTAND BATTLEFIELD USE. THE STANAG MAG HAS BEEN REVISED AND IS NOW VERY RELIABLE. THE ROUNDS ARE STACKED WITH PRETTY MUCH THE SAME SPACE. ONLY DIFF IS THAT THE ROUNDS ARE BIGGER.

@Bersatourimbelg well, if you're hell-bent on an AR/M-16/M4 you can always get a piston conversion kit. They're fairly simple to install. I guess it all depends on your price range and needs/wants. But a direct impingement blows hot gasses and particles back directly into the action which is basically a bad thing. You have to clean them all the time, and they're very dirty.

I don't know about cartridge comparisons between the 6.5 and 6.8, but I know the 6.5mm caliber has better accuracy and 7mm has better ballistics performance, so 6.8 was the compromise. I'm pretty sure 6.5 was meant to be a more accurate/long range version of the 5.56. Both are deadily cartidges and both in my opinion are a step up from a 5.56. I think overall, 6.8 should be standard issue but 6.5 would be a effective DMR cartridge.

I love the REC7 for everything but I would still go with the ACR in the end because it can do more jobs and I can still fire 5.56 mm. Don't get me wrong, I love the 6.8 round more the any other and the ACR allows me to adapt to whatever situation is at hand, esp if I have no more 6.8 ammo and all I have is 5.56 available. In that sense, I can use those rounds or even enemy rounds. But, as a civvy, I'd just simply switch out the barrel, bolt, and mag and boom, 6.8 ACR. ^_^

@Lardman678 I'd pick the Barrett REC7 first. 6.8 SPC has better stopping power than 5.56x 45mm NATO round. HK 416 has 5.56x 45mm. There is a "heavy" version like the FN SCAR: HK-417. HK-417 fires the 7.62x51mm round (M-14 round) Between the REC7 and HK-417, I am not sure. But I pick one of those two over the HK-416.

@kord127 I DONT THINK ATMOPRESS AFFECTS THE MAG THAT MUCH. ITS THE DECOMPRESSION RATE OF THE SPRING, AND THE CONDITION ITS IN THAT AFFECTS THE MAG PERFORMANCE. STRONGER SPRING AND BASE PLATE MEAN BETTER AMMO FEEDING AND LESS CHANCE OF THE MAG LOSING ITS BOTTOM. ALSO THE FEED LIPS OF THE UPPER MAG, AK DURABILITY ITS TOP NOTCH, STANAG, NOT SO GREAT BEFORE, NOW ITS BEEN CORRECTED. ALL THE ATMOSPRESS MIGHT DO IS FEED THE AMMO FASTER, SLIGHTLY INCREASING RPM'S.

Ok, they NEED to put a full auto option or a 3 round burst option on this thing if we're going to make it our standard-issue rifle to replace the M4... Maybe they should make one variant of the rifle with safe/semi/auto and one with safe/semi/3... just like the M4A1 and M4. They should call the one with the 3 round burst the REC7 and the one with full auto the REC7A1. We can't have a rifle that is JUST semi auto replace guns that have more than one option.

Poor 6.8. There is always some "new" cartridge that perfects ballistics and stability. And then shortly after it disappears. The 6.8 never really caught the attention it should have from the military. Now all you hear about is the 300 blackout. But I have a feeling she too will be old news when something else comes out.
@89tonstar
@89tonstar 10 жыл бұрын
there are several variables that make a cartridge popular on the civilian market and military markets. the most important is cost. 6.8 ammunition costs about 2x as much for about the same range of supression as the 5.56. Granted it hits with alot harder punch but at distances in afghanistan and battle fields in the perceivable future, the 7.62 is the cartridge of choice for distance and an much improved 5.56 in the MK262, MK318, and M855A1(lighter, cheaper, and cost effective) is perfect for storming houses and compounds. Everyone agrees the 6.8SPC,6.5 grendal, and .300 BLK are all great performing cartridges but the market and need is simply NOT there. As long as the military chooses the 5.56 cheap ammunition will be available for it and therefore shooters all over the world will choose it over paying 1.20 per round.

tbone martinez 6.8 brass in good condition can be sold for around 40 cents a piece with out much effort. Picking it up, placing it in a box and finding some one on the 6.8spc forum that wants it and cha ching. I have got all my 6.8 ammo for $1 a piece. So it's really 60 cents a round unless I reload them and I drop it down to 45 cents or so depending on the market. It's still not as cheap as 5.56 though like you said

@bahamabrz REC 7 HAS A SHORT STROKE GAS PISTON SYSTEM, ACTUALLY ONE OF THE BEST SYSTEMS ON THE CURRENT MARKET FOR AN AR PLATFORM. STAYS COOL, CLEAN, AND INCREASES RELIABILTY, BY REDUCING CHANCES OF MALFUNCTION. THIS THING HAS THE RUGGED DEPENDABILITY AND STOPPING POWER OF AN AK-47, WITH THE ACCURACY AND AND RANGE OF THE M16. ITS THE BEST COMBINATION OF BOTH GUNS.

@kord127 THE 5.56 IS A FASTER ROUND AND CAN TRAVEL FARTHER, BUT ITS LEATHALITY DROPS OUT TO RANGES BEYOND 700-800M MORE OR LESS, THE 6.8 TRAVELS SLIGHTLY SLOWER, BUT HAS MORE SIZE AND WEIGHT, MEANING AT THAT DISTANCE IT WILL STILL RETAIN MOST OF ITS LEATHALITY. TODAYS AMMO TECH, A 14.5IN BARREL CAN ACHIEVE THE SAME PERFORMANCE OF A BARREL THAT WAS 16IN, IMPROVEMENT IN PROPELLANTS HAVE ALLOWED THE USE OF SHORTER BARRELS WITH LONGER BARREL PERFORMANCE. WE ARE NOW SEEIN THE ERA OF THE CARBINE.

@TheRhymeBoy actually it's not, its a proven weapon system that's very reliable, but not the most reliable, the most reliable is actually the metalstorm system, because there are no moving parts there is possibility for mechanical interference therefore, so long as the barrel is clear and the electronics work (which require far less maintenance) it will fire, and in my opinion, a VZ58 is more reliable, it doesn't require a dust cover (like the ak) and the bolt doesn't move as much(unlike the ak)

@4turrold5 Well I think at first the private customers will be the biggest target and to be fair, this weapon is probably not going to see much light in the US military. Perhaps some rifles will be bought in small quantity, but the US military is not likely to change their 5.56 Nato round. They'll just probably go with the HK 416 instead. However there are a lot of Militaries around looking for new replacements. Sweden will replace their AK5's (FN FNC's) in 2020, this could be an alternative.

For me Hk416 and REC7 looks the same, same accuracy, same capacity (30 rounds). The only difference is the action and cartridge, REC7 uses Piston-Operated and 6.8 SPC, HK416 uses Gas-operated, rotating bolt with the most commonly known 5.56 rifle cartridge. Anyway I'll go with the REC7. Why? Because it uses the new 6.8 SPC that means it kills more effectively as well as penetration.

MOST RIFLES TODAY ARE BEING PRODUCED TO COMBINE THE DURABILITY OF THE AK, AND THE ACCURACY OF MOST WESTERN RIFLES. GERMAN GUNS ARE TOP OF THE LIST IN ALL ASPECTS. WITH US GUNS COMIN CLOSE. @StriderCX ikno :D check barrett page, there its written its available in 556 and 68. pure awesomeness.. we re going to adopt it as our new standard issue weapon in 556, but im getting myself one in 68, cuz i think, it will replace the 556 (lack of stoppin power, stability flight, and so on)

Why the REC 7 doesn't use very popular 7.62x51 caliber and uses 6.83x43 instead? It has increased price and potentialy can cause supply problems. Right?

@ArticSniper1 This is full auto as well. But i think that the LWRC M6A2 is better than both of these. I don't know, but i can't tell the difference between the LWRC M6A2 and the REC7.

I'm not liking it.... Much rather have my LMT piston rifle. Monolithic (one piece) upper receiver, gas piston operated, removeable barrel allowing you to swap from 5.56 to 6.8. And the LMT comes standard with the SOPMOD stock and a ergo grip. all for just under 2,000. Where as the Rec7 is cool but not as flexible and runs for 2,399. Barrett makes great sniper rifles! The M99 is blast to shoot, pun intended! haha!
