Ronnie is right. He and the top players who often make finals know the sport well and he knows what he's talking about. Selby at some point, Williams, now John Higgins, they burnt out because play too many tournaments and waste they time on 6-0 matches with low-ranked players. Ron won the Champ of Champs then 2 days later was playing in Ireland. I'm quite sure he would have won with Judd but after the match against Selby he was so flat, tired because he had to play so many matches, practically every day. Judd had a few days more to relax and practice. In fact only those who made a few finals during a year and needed to go straightaway to another tournament have sth to say about the system. How can you take a break after ChofCh if it's Northern Ireland the next day, Home Nations event, one of the most important ones? And also, seeding the best with the worst one is humiliating for both of them in my opinion.

I agree with Barry here. Of course, Barry's main interest is generating the most profit for both himself and the sport as he can. Yet people seem to think they're unavailing his selfishness for pointing this out. It's true, there are other players that are just trying to get by and make a living out of the sport that need more tournaments to play in to make ends meat. By giving them opportunities now, it enables top class players to come through in the future. Barry is building a foundation in snooker that has life after Ronnie, therefore he isn't held to ransom by the top player in the game.

Barry hearn is very selfish to his players. He is not forcing them to play here, there and everywhere but if the top players missed out on a few then it could affect their ranking. He expects them to go to most tournaments because of this. He knows the more top ranking players are at every venue the more the seats are filled. He is only concerned about his profits and if any tweaks whatsoever could affect that then he will just refuse and ridicule anyone in the process. Don't get me wrong, he has done well for the game but I think his greed comes before anything.

I am torn honestly. On the one hand I completely agree, players should earn their ranks and do so by playing the game. Yes there are lots of tournaments, but its not slave labour is it? It is not sitting in a submarine for 3 months without fresh air. Its playing snooker for a few hours a day, usually not even an 8 hour work day on the small events. I understand we all need breaks, but if you are already getting 5+ weeks off a year, then honestly you are doing just as well if not better than most people. That all being said, I do agree with Ronnies sentiment that we know the best players like himself, Selby, Highins, Trump, Ding etc are better than the non televised events and should have a better system that does not allow them to drop out of the main events all because they did not beat enough bums for lack of a better word. If you put Manchester United against in a conference league, I garuntee you they wont win every time, they will get restless and tired because they do not feel the same sense of competition yet are playing so much that the agression and urgency leaves their game. And it is the same with snooker.

The thing is though, the shot time clock will ruin the game if brought in, i agree a simple stun shot or top onto black should not take longer than 35 seconds. But if you're in a safety battle the clock should not exist at all, by creating the time pressure you're going to make players fumble rush and fuck up their game, shit even ronnie took 1:35 for a safety escape this tournament.

I think Barry's right, fair enough Ronnie has complaints but he should go to the source of the problem, not moan about it to the public on camera, its a terrible way of dealing with problems and its also unprofessional on Ronnie's part IMO. If life teaches you anything its that you face your problems and try and reach a fair conclusion. They are listening, like changing it so finalists get a later first round entry into subsequent tournaments. I also think its fair that lower ranked players play the top 16, gives everyone a chance, opens up opportunities for the future greats to show themselves. As for the average shot timer I really think it must be done carefully, there are definitely circumstances in snooker where a player might have to think about their shot repeatedly over the course of a scrappy or unusual frame, while I reckon it would be rare I can still see it dragging up the average shot time over the course of shorter matches.
