Barry Manilow performs "Weekend In New England" live, taken from the 1982 Showtime Special
For me, it was an exciting experience in all ways. This was my first “In the Round” concert tour. We were sold out with the most amazing crowd and I remember running from the exit to the stairs that would lead me up to the stage.
I tore down the runway to the stage with loads of people on either side of the aisle. Everyone yelling, cheering, smiling with security guards trying to keep the crowd back as I dashed up on to the stage.
Thrilling. Just thrilling.
Thanks to all of you for continuing to make such wonderful memories for me.

LYRICS:
Last night I waved goodbye
Now it seems years
I'm back in the city where nothing is clear
But thoughts of me holding you
Bringing us near
And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
Time in New England took me away
To long rocky beaches
And you by the bay
We started a story whose end must now wait
And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
I feel the change coming
I feel the wind blow
I feel brave and daring
I feel my blood flow
With you
I could bring out all the love that I had
With you
There's a heaven so earth ain't so bad
And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
Again

I was reading about him and the word is he never planned to be a singer so he really has to force himself to be that good..however his piano genius is much much easier for him. He puts on great shoes I've seen him twice so far in 83 with my mom and 84 I took my dad these were. Both were Christmas shows.

@@terryjohnson5305 take that with a pinch of salt. It's common for particularly good singers to say the old line 'I never wanted to be a singer'. I believe it's called humble bragging.

Barry's music became wildly popular after I got out of college in 1977. I've always loved his heartfelt songs and his singing ability. My wife and I saw him in concert in Atlanta over 10 years ago and he was awesome in person. This was always one of my favorite tunes of his.

This is my very favorite Barry Manilow song. My little sister, Marci, got me hooked on you when I was in High School, 1976. I told her about your concert special and channel. She was singing your songs from the concert this morning at 2 am. Her husband and roommates were not pleased 😆. My sister had a stroke 1 year ago this past October. I told her to get her old albums (yes vinyl) and play them and sing to help her mind and body recover from her stroke.

I’ve been a Fanilow since my then-15-year-old sister dragged me to one of his 1978 concerts at the Greek Theater in LA. I could drive, so my sister paid for my ticket. Barry sold out 15 concerts in that run at a theater that holds 4,500. I liked what I saw & heard so much that I dragged my sister to his concert the following night and we sat in the trees surrounding that outdoor venue. Barry is a national treasure and I am awed by his talent every time I hear him.

My first kiss was with a girl I met while vacationing at Panama City Beach, FL back around 1982. She was leaving with her parents the next day and we spent most of the night on the beach hanging out. Like a stupid kid I didn't get her address or full name. The next day I hung out for hours near the condo leasing office hoping to see her when they checked out, but never did. A few weeks later I heard this song and it brought me to tears wondering if I would ever see her again and if something could have ever come out of our meeting. All I remember was her name was Daphne and she went to a Lutheran School in Chattanooga. I never did "hold her again".

You just don’t see performances like this anymore. There was a live performance of this song from ‘78 at the Greek theater. It was incredible! The camera person filmed a close up, focused on Barry face, at the build up and the climax of the song. It was amazing to watch! He gave so much to the audience during the performance! Like he was giving a piece of his soul! I was awestruck. At the end of the song, someone in the crowd shouted, “one more time!” Barry replied, “one more time, why I oughta…” lol! I remember riding in the car with my mom and dad as a kid. They had it on an AM station and this came on. From the first note to the last note I was intrigued. It also made me tear up when it was on the chorus part. I miss those days of radio and car rides with my parents. I love you Barry

Love his music. Brings back memories of growing up. I’m 54 now and at 12 had a major crush on him lol. Wish I could meet him.

You know, I've listened to this song a lot. And what impresses me so much is hearing the subtle little changes in Barry's arranging and in the way he sings this song. I don't know if he does this as a nod to his diehard fans ... I guess that's what I want to think. At any rate, I sure appreciate it. It's been a wonderful experience to be a fan of his for these decades. Through it all, he's been dedicated, technically sound, passionate, and grateful for those who have supported him and his music. What more can you ask for?

What a great song! What a great singer! He still performs in Las Vegas and will travel to Florida in January. I can't wait to see him again.

Barry...I still think this one may be your favorite even though you say you don't have one. You love them all, but you put so much of yourself into this version with singing and playing that wonderful piano that I love so much. Thank you Barry. I will love you forever and a day~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Dancing Queen BB 1965--My nickname in my first year of college. I am only 3 years younger than you...........................Betsy

Barry always gives a song everything he has!! His songs evoke feelings of love in people. He is truly gifted in playing the piano and singing. He worked extremely hard to get where he is today and is still working hard at 80 years old!! This is such a beautiful song. There will probably never be another great talent like Barry Manilow.!!!❤❤❤

I ❤️ this music. Barry your voice and music is eternal. I so enjoy the piano 🎹 . Your style is one that I’ve enjoyed for years. Your music speaks to my heart and soul about how I feel and felt about someone precious to me. He says what you want you want someone to say to you. He’s saying I care, I love u, I want to be with you and love you forever. 😊

I just finished watching his Christmas TV special that came in last night. I was hoping he would sing this song but he didn’t so I had to go to KZfaq to listen to it. This is one of my favorite songs of all time.
