I watched the vid without reading the title, and recognised the pit lane exit line immediately. Back in ‘78 I rode Donington before it was completed, and entered the circuit via the paddock and through the pit area. But when I reached Redgate, there was a massive mud trail left by trucks that were going backwards and forwards from the main entrance to the inside of the circuit. So I went back into the pits and grabbed a massive brush, then swept what I hoped was the best race line. Spent a good hour almost emptying my tank doing lap after lap - until a gold Mercedes appeared at the top between McLeans and Coppice. Next lap two guys were standing by the car. The following lap one of them held up his left arm and tapped his watch. I took the hint, gave him a wave and went home on reserve. That’s how I ‘met’ Tom Wheatcroft. Great to see Barry doing his thing. Great bloke. Thank you for sharing

When 43 looked like 63. Katana ftw. Loved the banter between them.

Is it me or were sport stars more charismatic back then. Two blokes, amongst the best at what they did, having a laugh and coming across as a couple of regular guys having some fun. Seems a million miles away fromthe monotone, one dimensional boring folk of today.
@Monkey80llx3 жыл бұрын
They didn’t have a team of 8 behind the scenes, from marketing, the sponsors and worst of all, H.R., telling them what they can and can’t say. Pretty much. So i read on the internet, so it must be true! 😂 Seriously though, i’m 100% agreed with your comment.

An era of real people who loved the job they did not the money they got for doing it. They had character, personalities and a connection with the folk who went to support them be it soccer, rugby, cricket or bikes. Even athletics, cricket and tennis had the wild down to earth super stars who never lost touch with reality.

The late great Barry sheene and good old goal poacher Jimmy greaves! Brilliant

A charming and characterful snippet, dripping with nostalgia. The bike is (or appears to be) an 1100 Katana. At the time it had been round for a year or two, but was still quite striking on appearance and performance. Whatever anyone tells you, 125mph on a pillion is disturbingly fast.... and I imagine Mr Sheene was hitting the brakes and getting on the throttle too. Lovely to see this.... Thanks for uploading.

I remember in the early 80's when I had an RD350 that smoked just about any 750 I encountered until the VFR750 came out and they edged me out. Then late one night I saw one of these Katana's for the first time and had no idea what the hell it was. When the light turned green by the time I was across the intersection the Katana was almost 1/4 block down the road. I never attempted that again.
