I have a 2022 F350 long bed stock 4x4 7.3. It has 66,000 miles on it now. It runs as smooth as new. Oil changes are EASY how they have it set up (and I put a brass 90-deg valve in place of the drain pan bolt - game changer!). It costs me about $56 for an oil change including FORD filter. Takes me 15 min including just inspecting everything while oil drains. No DEF. No fuel filters. Easy. My boss asked me to pull a 22,000 pound load to the dump for him. 16’ dump trailer full of bricks and other construction debris. We estimated weight CONSERVATIVELY based on load density and volume of bricks vs other stuff in there. Suffice it to say that that dump bed has twin hydraulic cylinders and dual batteries and it had “just enough” to lift that bed! We were afraid it wouldn’t lift so we tested it before hooking up. Anyway - 15 mile trip to dump on flat back roads. Zero issues pulling. Truck was a beast. Would a diesel have done it better? ABSOLUTELY! Not even a question. Hands down yes. But I don’t haul that heavy. Almost never. Just for fun I will haul heavy like that to test the Godzilla. Such a wonderful engine. Gas mileage sucks. I average like 14.7 around town and I drive like Grampa. Because I am Grampa. But like all children of the 70’s who drove big V8’s this engine thrills me when I jump on the accelerator. It has a ton of fun in the pedal. This could very well be my last truck. So I treat it with good maintenance. Oil changes are averaging 4600 miles between changes. I’d make the same decision again if I had to. And money doesn’t matter for me in a vehicle. I coulda bought a Platinum diesel but I drive a gas XLT. I love my truck. I’m proud of it. Oh. And there’s NOTHING like an 8’ bed. Just the best decision I ever made. Once you have an 8’ bed you never care for a 6.5’ bed ever again. She’s a big old white Beluga - that’s what my wife calls her. When I run my tractor around the lawn every time I pass the Beluga I find myself staring at her.

I have had numerous diesels from all 3 since 94. All my guys drove them as well. In 2020 I switched to gas and haven't looked back. I pull a trailer daily and occasionally a front end loader and equipment. The boat on the weekends and she weighs 17k and although the gas does everything the diesels did...just at a slower pace and cost of ownership in fuel and maintenance is a lot less. I have leveled mine with a Carli level..added 37's..dual exhaust and a 5 star tune to adjust speedo and give me a lil power down low and extra tranny braking when towing. 80k miles and not a thing has gone wrong and Im ready for a 2025 but don't really need it. The 7.3 is better towing than the 6.6 gas we have and my friend has the 6.4 and that is about on par with the GM...maybe a lil less grunt when towing.

I have a 2023 F350 7.3 4.30 gears short bed. I tow a 5th wheel that's 34 ft long about 14klbs. I average 7-8MPG towing. I think my next truck will be a long bed diesel for the extra fuel, MPG, and towing ability. After towing through some of the small hills in Arkansas I want something that does hills better. I also hate having to plan all my gas stops because it's so hard to fit the truck in to get fuel. If I had a diesel I could just use truck lanes. It tows good. The hills had the engine brake screaming though. It was unsettling. I picked the 7.3 to avoid all the hassles of diesel. If it makes towing easier I will bear with the hassles.

I have been waiting for someone to make a video comparing these engines. One thing I would add: The 7.3 Godzilla looks like the most accessible engine for maintenance/repair that I have seen since the early 1970’s. For example: I think it would be possible to change spark plugs without taking any other engine components off!

You are on the right track. However, do the comparison between the two over 100k miles. One of the major factors missed here is the higher cost of the diesel, increased sales tax, registration, insurance and " hopefully " the smog systems replacement costs if/when something goes wrong with the diesel?? If you're not towing often, you are way ahead with the gas. Resale? who cares if you're running the truck for 10-20 years.

who wants to buy a used diesel with no warranty vs gas a fuel replacement is more than a 7.3 engine replacement and simple to repair also you gave the price on fuel filters no labor at dealer oil change and fuel filters around 500.00 at dealership they would like you to do them every other oil change i know what they charge because my company truck is done there everytime and they want you use fuel additive every tank to protect the fuel system and that not cheap and you dont mention fuel in the winter blended or #1 for us who live in the north no mileage in this fuel and #1 straight way to dry bye itself these trucks are fine as long as you can afford to keep under warranty but most people are not at these prices thank you for your time and excellent videos

I love my 7.3 towing a 14k 5th wheel. One thing to point out is the 8th, 9th, and 10th gear are all still overdrive gears. I’ve pulled KBB number to compare resale value, and if you go back to 2020, the 1st year of the 7.3 and I compared Lariat trim with the only difference being the motor, and the diesel is only worth like $6k more. That $10k diesel option does not hold its value like it used to. I think people are nervous to buy a diesel that is out of warranty.

Wish someone would test vehicles for those who could care less what the gas mileage is. Vehicles have always been enjoyable for me. I'm pushing 70 and have never paid any attention to mileage. There was a time I commuted 90 miles a day in an F250 in Chicago with a 460 in it. That was a blast. I buy a vehicle for fun and use it for transportation. Fun is always first because that will transfer to commuting. I certainly hope I never live to see the day that gas mileage matters to me. Currently, I'm driving a F350 7.3 10-speed and it is a blast. Sorry, I have no idea what the mileage is. It's a long bed with a 48-gallon tank. The dash says I can go 400-500 miles when I fill it up if that helps.

The diesel will definitely last long but will the rest of the truck last that long? The electronics, seats, paint, other drive train parts? Probably not before you’re tired of the vehicle and get tired of the other repairs that come with a high mileage vehicle. With a diesel you feel like you have to keep it for a long time because it’s a diesel and you need to justify the premium you paid for the truck. It’s easier to get out of a gas truck and not feel tied to it when something better comes along.

the big problem with the 6.7 is: SYSTEMS you have at least 5 major systems that are very high cost on the diesel. the 7.3 is a basic motor... the diesel is very complex.. after the warranty is over the 6.7 is a liability. When the 6.7 is under warranty... well hell you can't beat it... it is the winner in any comparison... I appreciate the math here but you are not factoring in the cost after warranty... the complexity of the 6.7 is not attractive to people who need a reliable diesel after the warranty period and don't get me wrong about the reliablity after the warranty .. the 6.7 is a beast... but after the warranty the owner has to start paying $4k for this and $7k for that..
