This is southern rock at it's finest. The flute solo at the beginning & end is great. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their other big hits were "Fire on the Mountain" & "Heard It in a Love Song". Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them.

I remember vividly back in 1973 when I was in college hearing this track on the radio. I hopped in my VW Beetle and drove down to Tower Records in San Jose, Ca. to snatch me a copy. About a year later I was lucky enough to see them when they opened for The Allman Brothers Band at the Cow Palace in Oakland, Ca. Charlie Daniels was in the lineup as well. What a great show. Take care...

My brother used to have 2 acres surrounded by cornfields. My "city-slicker" brother in law was down for a visit. He was not familiar with TMTB. Sitting in lawn chairs, drinking beer, watching the sun set over the corn, with this band playing in the background - and he says "I've got tears in my eyes".

Tommy & Toy Caldwell were two of the original members of the band and sadly died very young in highway accidents about a year apart. They were from the Spartanburg area of S.C. and were my exes cousins. Her grand mother always talked about them and their friends sitting on their mothers front porch playing music before they ever got famous.

And start with "Statesboro Blues"! Also Check out Larkin Poe, known as " Little Sisters of the Allman Brothers". Their live version of "Summertime Sunset", "Ex-Con" or "Trouble in Mind" are good places to start. Watch out for the rabbit hole, they have about 125+ cover songs on KZfaq, just the two Lovell Sisters, in a spare room with their guitars, playing everything from Simon and Garfunkle, to Black Sabbath to Kansas to Robert Johnson to Bob Seger. A great version of Three Dog Night's " Never been to Spain" has killer slide guitar work by Megan, just the Sisters and Mark Agnessi, sitting on a couch with guitars. That one is on Julie Meyers channel.

“24 Hours at a Time” is a fantastic song and the live album version is 14 minutes with great instrumentals! You two would love every minute of it and would probably be laid back with eyes closed listening to it! Saw them in ‘74 in Tulsa with great seats about 8-10 rows back right in front of Toy Caldwell and brother Tommy Caldwell, the co-founders! Also in 2002 in Tulsa, OK when Doug Gray was the band leader (he was one drunk cookie that night, unfortunately), but his voice was as clear as ever!

After following many of these songs during reactions on KZfaq I know some arei incredible live also.
