An incredible job of sound restoration. An incredible performance. And Benny Goodman should be given credit as the person who commissioned Bartok to compose this in 1938!

A teenage love of GHoodman from PBS TV concerts of the last Benny Goodman QUartet reunion before Krupa died, led me to Bartok via this recording. AN entire world of music opened for me. THe performance is stil as good as it gets for my ears. Szigeti remains my overall fave violinist. NOt that other violinists weren't extremely good, and who can deny Kreisler his unpralleled ability to convey emotion, but Szigeti was the daredevil taking on new music and playing with a quirky range of timbres that makes me think of him as the Hendrix of vintage classical violinists.

I had this disc. and wore it out. It's been in my recall for years. Bartok on piano is truly haunting.

This is a great piece and wonderful to hear both Bartok and Goodman. Parts sound like klezmer music. We always have on youtube. Now I will buy a new recording on cd played by recent artists. Love the classical clarinet and sad so few composers wrote clarinet concertos. I have an orchestration of one of Prokofiev's violin sonatas done as a clarinet concerto with orchestra.
