I decided to swap Gibson pickups with the stock ones. Please feel free to ask questions if you have any concerns about particular stages of the replacement. At the end I give a short demo of both pickups configuration, but I'm going to make a longer demo in another video. It's a no talking video, I did it for myself, not KZfaq particularly, and then decided to put it here so it might help someone to go through the process. Therefore the camera angle and so on is not perfect.

2. Overdriven Group - Space Diver • Overdriven Group - Spa... - all the guitar parts here were recorded with this Epiphone Sheraton and Gibson pickups into Fender Twin Reverb Custom 68 amp.

Great. Maybe the camera position is not the best in the world, but you see everything and you get the concept. Which is "do not unscrew and remove everything, only what you are actually changing". This reduces dramatically the danger of getting confused. Kept me from going to the store, where they take 50 bucks more for the pickups and money for replacing too. Saves me a hundred ;-)

Yes, I know the camera angle is not perfect. I'm not a guitar tech. I did it for myself and just switched the camera on and then decided to put this on KZfaq to show that it's not very difficult unless you only replace the pickups and use some tricks given in this video. Thanks for watching.

Just watching this video is irritating...LMBO! I simply do not understand why some hollow/semi hollow guitar builders don't include a removable back cover allowing easier access to the electronics on the instrument. Makes me appreciate the companies that do that much more. It saves so much time, energy, and aggravation when doing repairs or mods. Very informative video though, thanks for posting.

Dude just use the rag to pull those knobs off,lift up on both sides of the cloth once you get it close to the shaft,and turn the knob as you lift a little each time, until they pop off, better then putting a dent in your guitar top, or scratching the finish with that screw driver, sting idea is cool for getting the pots back in,but you have a lot of people cringing,when it comes to being careful with your operation there,kinda funny to me,I've gotten frustrated with pickup changes too and reliced a few of my own guitars.

Hi, long but good instructive video! What made you decide to reinstall the stock pickups? I believe a P90 Type neck and humbucker in bridge is an excellent combi for the Sheraton II. I have a 1998 Sheraton, was considering new pickups, although it doesn’t sound bad at all as it is now. Mine is stock wired with independent volume which I really like.
@BartSoundsGood
@BartSoundsGood 6 жыл бұрын
The first thing was that after a few years of playing with Gibson pickups I wanted to have a humbucker in neck position again and the stock pickups weren't that bad as you noticed. The second thing is that I am going to sell this sheraton and it gets more interest with the stock pickups and the Gibson pickups are already sold.

Thanks for the video. I have a 99 Korean Dot I bought new. I really liked it. Years later I thought I wanted to put Gibson pickups i it. But I was a wuss and didn't want to tackle it. So I had a friend that works on guitars do it for me. Only the pickups, he didn't change anything else. I had him put two 57 classics in it. I think I should have put a classic + in the bridge. But on a forum guys were arguing about that. Some chose what I did. Some said the classic plus in the bridge was better. Anyway, he had heck doing it. He said the wires were so tiny and short, and he was out of practice, it was a pain in the ass. Well I wish I still had the originals in it. These 57's are more like for Jazzy, mellow sound. They sound good, but I use some gain, and like to play like Alvin. Lee..lol. Well try to play like Alvin. These pickups just aren't as good for that kind of music. I wouldn't do it again, there was nothing wrong with what came stock in it. I read where people said the pickups are different in each dot. It still isn't a Gibson. Like you said, a subtle difference, but I lost a bit of sizzle. Seeing you do yours makes me glad I didn't tackle the job myself. I wish I had my original pickups back in it. They rocked.

Thanks for sharing the story. I can tell you that I used to have a Dot also, a Chinese one, probably made around 2005 and my friend got another one, made a few years later, I don't remember where. I didn't like mine and I liked his one a lot! Pickups aren't everything. If a guitar doesn't resonate well and has some weaker parts then pickups won't help a lot. I liked Gibson 57 in the bridge though, very rocky.
@crowhaven200
@crowhaven200 4 жыл бұрын
@@BartSoundsGood Very true, Pickups aren't everything. I have fenders with identical pickups that sound totally different. Amps come into play, and strings. I still have my old DOT, it was very well built, and plays well. I have since bought an Epi ES339 pro. It's lighter and smaller than the 335 and I got my crunch and sizzle back with it. It also has coil splitting which I never use. I like the ES 339 so much I bought another on in a different color....lol.. They have redesigned the headstocks now, I like the new design much better. If I had the money I would buy a newer model..lol

If you google search 335 wiring diagrams, the pups only solder to 1 lug and the housing of the volume control.
@12south31
@12south31 4 жыл бұрын
2 were already soldered together and taped off. (The north and south end wires from the coils). These can be used with DPDT pots for coil splitting by running to the middle lugs of the DPDT switch and a ground from one bottom and one top lug going to back of pot. The 2 wires we saw were simply to volume lug and ground on back of pot. Switch inputs went to center lug of volume pots and output of switch went to the jack. Tone pots are connected to volume pots via the capacitor. All pots are grounded to each other and the ground wire from the bridge goes to back of volume pot. Hope that helps.
