Abigail, 27, noticed a spot on her nose that seemed to come from out of nowhere. She ignored it for a while, until she decided to have a dermatologist check. "The first dermatologist I saw just brushed it off..." she explained. But the spot was still concerning her 5-6 months later, so she went back and the biopsy showed basal cell carcinoma. That's when she was directed to Ada West Dermatology and one of Idahos' best Mohs Surgeons, Ryan Thorpe, MD, FAAD.
Dr. Thorpe spent 8 hours in surgery to eradicate the cancer on Abigail's nose and now, 7 months later, she's fully healed and you'd never know she had a significant section section of the skin off her nose removed.
We applaud Abigail for trusting her gut and getting the spot on her nose checked as well as for wearing hats and sunscreen everyday!!

I had a spot on my scalp for years and just ignored it. Even my hairdresser brought it my attention. Still ignored it. At one point, I knew I should get a full body scan because my background is northern European and makes me the prime candidate for skin cancer. They did a biopsy. I still thought it would be nothing. Nope, it was basal cell carcinoma. I had the MOHS surgery. They had to go back in 4 or 5 times until they got a healthy margin of skin. The open wound was after the surgery was fairly large compared to the size of the spot that I had observed, but my hair covered the scar. Recently, I saw a tiny open sore on the top edge of one ear. It never healed and started to get larger. This time, I paid attention to what was happening and went for a biopsy. Once again, it was BCC. I had the MOHS surgery and then reconstructive surgery. They only had to go in one time and I was done. I said all that to say. It's your body. If you suspect something is wrong, make sure they do a biopsy. You can't just look at it and say it's nothing. It may grow slowly but the longer you wait, the larger the affected area may be and the more they have to cut out. This young lady was lucky to have such a great result. Don't let it go too long. It's still cancer however slowly it may grow.

How long did you have the BCC before you had it removed? I am told BCC grows slowly but mine is 4 yrs now as I was told it was ‘nothing’.

Mine was on my leg. I had noticed it only months to maybe a year. The area was smaller than a pea but my surgical site quarter size as basal cells grow roots under the skin. If you notice an area get it checked.
