I have had 3 strokes (2021,2022,2023). In 2021 the doctor said I had a stroke in the pool of the brain. Now the only thing I can say is that I saw the MRI and the stroke was at the base of the brain where the spinal cord comes up into the neck. He made the comment that "we don't usually see a brain in this condition for a person my age". (I was 59 at the time of stroke #1) Now that really made me feel better ?? Since then I have had 2 more. He sent me home with BP and cholesterol medication and told to go live my life. Live my life ???? I am scared to death especially since I followed his advice and still are having them. Im still looking for solutions just like everyone else that found this channel. ✌🏻♥️

I wish my husband had a doctor like you. He had a hemorrhagic basal ganglia stroke almost 4 years ago at age 57. This information would have been so helpful, none of the doctors really gave me any clue about what life going forward would be like. I have seen many of the symptoms you described in this video. He wasn't accepting what had happened and began having bipolar manic episodes after the stroke. After several neurologists, he got a diagnosis of vascular dementia last year. And after multiple behavioral hospitalizations, we finally have a doctor that's prescribing meds that are taking the edge off of the delusional manic episodes. The last 4 years have been a roller-coaster, and it's still going.

I've been struggling with my own symptoms of Basal ganglia stroke. I'm from Brisbane Qld Australia 🌏🦘. And I have really missed most of all the rehabilitation for my own issues😢. I've been praying and believing that I received the best care that I'm entitled to. But I've just finally been diagnosed with Basal ganglia stroke after 2yrs and half. It's been the biggest hurdles but now I'm truly struggling 😢😢

I'm 34 years old and I had a stroke 2 times in my basal ganglia 6months ago. Thank you so much for the explanation. I really appreciate it. Physically I'm getting better. But in my cognitive is not there yet. Im having problem with pronunciation, with getting my thoughts and choosing the right words I have to used. I seems to forgot what I am going to say. I just can't retain the information that well. But still I hope I can fully recover. I just keep doing what I'm doing like exercise and loud reading. Im just doing a self rehab.

I had a right sided basal ganglia stroke when I was 21 over 20 years ago…how I wished I had come across this information before. The only knowledge I received from the medical providers was that I was “such an interesting case” but no insight to my prognosis, recovery, etc.. I was a young mom of a 1 year old at that time and so frustrated with the lack of support I ended up signing out AMA. I have silently suffered with the effects and affects of my stroke but with time I figured out how to cope and adapt to my deficits. I truly enjoyed your presentation. You hit the nail on the head I had a stroke back in September 2019 & my family doesn’t understand many of the symptoms you mentioned my right side basil ganglia. I do have a Nerophysicologest who I seen during the first year & another visit them. What I have found that it’s like my proscesser is buffering & I can’t move forward in what I was doing such as trying to tie my shoes I usqed to build q1& drags race but have tried to do some basic Julie grades to q my vehicle & didn’t get the task done the fine tune to my hands work

I also had a ganglia stroke that I suffered from in September of 2020. I was in a 2 months long coma. When I finally woke up. My doctor at the time described to me that the area was like a free way intersection with many traffic going thru it. So a lot in my brain and my body is seriously effected by the stroke. At the time I felt like I was in a long dream n I got up. Everythings different. Luckily, my cognitive is not affected . But my motor skill is very much damaged. I still go do my PT and OT. My family and friends keep pushing me to do everything . Or if I ever just taking it easy. They just start saying things like; if you do keep doing that, you are not gonna get better. I wish they know. Walking 10000 steps a day is not gonna make it all go away. I only get extremely tired and it actually hurts when I even just walk to use the restroom. I have absolutely no energy. I honestly wish I never woke up from my coma. Life really is too hard to go on after the stroke. I try to be as positive as I can but man. It sucks. Thank you for this video. Thank you for all of your informative videos! I am trying to understand spasmodic dysphonia as it relates to the basal ganglia... I am 53 and have suffered from spasm dysphonia for years.

I have had five strokes in the past 10 years and I am only 35. Two of them we are convinced happened this year as they were in my basal ganglia as symptoms you mentioned have been happening since. Next week I’m getting a CTA and a 2D Doppler to see if my throasic outlet caused them (it caused the first three) my nuero vascular think it is highly unlikely that the 2nd two would cause such alarming symptoms because it’s almost impossible. Well I am the definition of rare.

just found this enlightening clip on my stroke. i had a high BP, but not being aware that it was present. in the words of my neurologist " i flooded by brain good and solid". had 4 months intense rehab hospital treatment. left hand still refuses to cooperate, no movement in the fingers unless i yawn, funny i know. recovery spirit and drive remains high as i constantly search for solutions.

This was an amazing talk made so many things very clear this stroke is very new to my husband as in 5/27/2020 new. Nothing that his Dr's call me to say is clear it all sounds like a diff language so I often turn to the internet for clarity he only has about 20 days of "therapy" and then basically they will send him home to figure out the rest of his life all alone.

Thank you Dr. Sullivan! I had a stroke in January 2019. I learned more about basal ganglia stroke from this video than from my doctors (during and after hospital stay)! How do you find the doctors that you recommend? I live close to Nashville, TN. After discharge I was assigned to a neurologist who practices at the hospital where I was taken. He is nice, but not helpful for rehab ideas. My hand was in a claw when I left the hospital. A Home Health OT also suggested the hand brace. Wearing it at night really helped my hand loosen up.

I had early warning symptoms..passed off as a Migraine..went on to have two haemorrhagic strokes..left with Hemiparesis

I'm now having problems with my left eye 👁️. IDK what is going to happen bcos I don't get the NDIS that is a health care and I'm so very depressed about just finally UNDERSTANDING the normal conversation with everyone who is family and friends 😢

I had a basil ganglia stroke and the doctor had no idea why. I didn’t have a clot, my arteries are clear and I don’t have high blood pressure. If anything, it slightly in the low side.

I had a ganglia stroke in 2014 I’m 41 now my left hand &left leg was affected if somebody saw me no-one knows from outside I had a stroke before however still something is missing i can go run for 30 minutes I feel like the improvement will be my whole life sometimes I feel disappointed but I’m still live that’s the main part.

I had a subarachanoid hemorrhage and it caused a subdural hemorrhage when I was 38y/o. My MRI shows a basal ganglion infarct so thank for this. But I'd like to know more how the subarachnoid bleed affected me. I know I have aphasia, but the VA hasn't really helped me at all in explaining anything or therapy post stroke care unfortunately.

How long can a 16mm blood clot at the basal ganglia completely clear? I had a stroke and blood drops were seen at the basal ganglia in 2018, i still feel numbness on my left leg and hand.

I have bilateral basal ganglia hyperintensities, since 2017. I have been to mayo, Denver, nobody has a clue of the cause. I stopped working around 2018 and am a completely different person. I don't have a clue how to live life.

Currently I’m 51 years old. I had a stroke on June 24th in the middle of the night while sleeping. Woke up on June 25th I woke up and had paralysis on the right side of my body. They said I had. Left Thalamus stroke. My body started coming back within a couple of days. But now it just my right shoulder to my right upper calf. The right sight of my body underneath my armpit to my hip feels like a complete rock. I’m trying to understand my deficit and what I can and cannot do.

Hello Dr. I wanna ask about my father's stroke. Last july he was diagnosed with bilateral basal ganglia stroke. But what makes me concerned is that why does both sides of his body cannot move at all after the stroke occurred. The stroke has now cause my father to be in quadriplegic state. I don't know what to do. But the stroke seems like doesn't effect his cognitive cause I feel that the way he thinks is the same as before the stroke attack. It's just his motor function is zero. So I wanted to ask is there any possible chance for him to recover? For at least his upper limbs get back the power? Oh before that, after one month of the post-stroke, his first movement is that he can do only extension on his both hands and legs. That's all. Thank you Dr. I hope you can answer to my question. Come to Canada our health care is free but it's declining. They stop rehab after 3 months they stamped my boyfriend's file with wheelchair only I'm doing the rehab with KZfaq videos in the hospital. They won't even let him hold on a grab bar and stand but I do.

Dr., My wife aged 41 suffered haemorrhage on basal ganglia both sides and 70 days now she can open her eyes look around and two times she cried also. May I ask you chances of her recovery ? How ?
