Basant 2023 Moments - HD kite flying - The Basant Kite Festival has been a historic spring time kite flying event during the BasantPanchami festival in the Punjab region in India and Pakistan.
Basant is a spring festival which used to be one of #Pakistan's most popular events, attracting thousands of kite flyers from all over the world to Pakistan.
But the centuries old tradition, which has Hinduism roots, injuries, incidents, has been banned since 2005 because authorities said it became too hazardous.
In Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, and China kite flying is both sport and recreation. In other countries, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, kite flying is children's play like during the New Year holidays and the Boys' Festival.

India has been trying to copy basant for years but couldn't. The truth is that basant is in the blood of every Lahori. This is one festival where the rich and the poor interact. They do not interact even on Eid. The elite class offers eid prayers at FC College or Aitchison College mosque while the general population goes to other mosques. #Basant is the only festival which the rich and poor celebrate together. This is a festival of the poor.

#KiteFlying is often known as Gudi-Bazi or Patang-bazi. Although kite flying is a popular ritual for the celebration of spring #festival known as Jashn-e-Baharaan (lit. Spring Festival) or Basant, kites are flown throughout the year.

According to the Punjabi calendar it is held on the fifth day of lunar month of Magha (in late January or early February) marking the start of spring.
During the #spring #festival, kite flying competitions are held across the country and the skies are colored with kites. As people cut-loose an opponents kite, shouts of 'Bo kata' ring through the air. They reclaim the kites, after they have been cut-loose, by running after them.

1 Bullets and tracer bullets fired during celebratory gunfire.
2 Dangerous types of kite strings, such as metal wire, or strings coated in ground glass or metal filings.
3 Electrocutions caused by flying metal wire kites near power lines.
4 Electrocutions caused by people touching power lines while trying to retrieve kites.
5 Falls from rooftops related to flying or trying to retrieve kites.
Another reason cited for the ban was the cost to the electricity power transmission system related to

Costs incurred from switching off the power grid to prevent short circuits.
