Superconductors carry current virtually without loss, and thus offer much greater efficiency in generating and transporting electricity. High-temperature superconductors conduct current without resistance at temperatures just above the boiling point of liquid nitrogen (77 Kelvin/-196 Degree Celsius). This temperature can be reached reliably and cost-effectively and maintained during operation using commercial cryotechnology. As the current carrying capacity is 10 to a 100 times larger than that of copper, highly compact and lightweight systems for electrical systems such as transformers, generators and electric motors as well as new cable applications become possible.
The latest, second generation of high-temperature superconductors is based on yttrium-barium-copper oxide. These superconductors can be manufactured cost-effectively in large quantities. In this field, BASF is pursuing research and development activities with its subsidiary Deutsche Nanoschicht GmbH, which has developed an innovative process for manufacturing high-temperature superconductors much more efficiently and cost effectively. BASF and Deutsche Nanoschicht plan to develop this innovative coating technology to marketability.

Korean companies just announced the commercialization of an existing superconductor cable technology(not sure if it is identical to BASF technology) and is in the market. Its environmental and commercial benefits are immense.

поразительно, вопрос в том как подключить такой кабель к обычному проводнику, ведь в месте контакта проводник неизбежно начнет нагреваться

Thank you for your comment. We hope that it is ok if we respond in English, because we assume that you will understand it if you were able to grasp the content of the video and because the answer might also be interesting for non-Russian speakers. The question of ZzzmaerD was whether connecting a supercoductor to a normal conductor would lead to an increase of temperature in the normal conductor. This question is very interesting because, indeed, the transition of a superconductor to a normal conductor (often made of copper) constitutes a challenge. For the transition an isolated section is used and the two different conductors are induced in the section from different sides. The section is filled with liquid nitrogen and at the contact point the copper has the same temperature of appr. 77K (-196 °C) as the superconductor. Then the temperature of the copper conductor increases steadily up to room temperature, before it leaves the isolated section.
