Basic Beginners FreeCAD 0.22 | Lesson 7 | Part Design Basic Exercise 1 | Drilled shim

Following on from the FreeCAD 0.22 theory lesson we will tackle our first exercise, a drilled shim. We will be creating the object from a technical drawing.
We will learn
- Setting up the panels and toolbars in the part design.
- Introducing the part design workbench
- What is a body
- Using the task pane to guide us through the process.
- What is the origin object in the treeview inside the body.
- Setting our body as active.
- Introducing the sketcher.
- Creating our first sketch and attaching to a plane
- Setting our scale.
- Apply a constraints, dimensioning and aligning.
- Auto constraints and auto remove redundant constraints.
- Creating a rectangle.
- What is a profile.
- Wire not close and how to fix.
- Validating a sketch
- Understanding degrees of freedom (DofF), under constrained and fully constrained.
- Making apply constraints quicker.
- Applying the pad operation.
- Editing sketches
- Making a full drilled shim in FreeCAD

Thanks for the new series! I went through the old one some time ago since I needed to manage the basic fast (there was a time sensitive need), and now, since I have more time, I can do the lessons more systematically and with no rush. So it is great it is now based on the newest version of Freecad. Can't wait for the next lessons. I think I will join your patrons community pretty soon.

Ah great to hear you have circled back and enjoying the new series. A bit of a different approach this one. More of a theory then practice and explaining how to go about getting something modelled as well as learning the basics. Sometimes it so hard to figure out where to start when tackling a modeling project. Thank you so much for the consideration of becoming a patreon, much appreciated.

I was wondering if you could add a verbal cue for the shortcuts. Something like " Select the horizontal constraint here or L on they keyboard". Back in the dark side days when learning Photo$hop, the instructor would add in the shortcut keys. Sometimes it was a bit clumsy because most of the shortcuts had modifier keys. Mac and Windows different modifiers with the same names (alt for Mac ctrl for Windows ). Halfway through the class you were thinking the shortcuts and by the end you were using them. Note: Some of the shortcuts started with the joke "Hold down the right side of the keyboard and press...."
