Basic Behringer Crave Sequencing Tutorial

Just a little chat about sequencing on the Behringer Crave. It's a lovely little mono synth and coupled with a simple step sequencer I am getting to quite like it.

Thanks, I'm glad you find my videos helpful. Just took a look at the JDXi, looks like a good keyboard that would pair up well with the Crave. I can see you could run a different length sequence on the Crave and get some interesting Polymeter stuff going.

hi ya doc.....just got one of these and this vid as been priceless!!, BIG thanks... as the amount of times ive read the manual n read the same line again n again as sooo much better 2 b showed how 2 do it "hands on " than badly laid out multi language *iss poor manual as only "quick start" as not done an official manual 4 it yet and getting loads more info off KZfaq vids, thank you doc 4 another informative video....

No worries mate glad it helped. Yep the manual is piss poor I reckon. There are some features that are well buried in there which make a huge difference. It took me a while to figure out the assign jack could be used to create a kind of sample hold LFO.

There has never been a decent technological solution except for those little sticky pads and when they go wrong too it is chaos!!!!!!!

I just had mine delivered. Grabbed it from a seller on Reverb and was the only one available in Canada, that I could find at least. Looks like it's discontinued by Behringer. I'm pretty new to synths, this video is perfect for me. Thanks!

You don't need to hold shift. Press record, play in the notes and add glide, ratchet, octave as you go

I think it depends if you want to add/edit notes on specific steps or not. In the normal record mode it automatically moves on a step.

Hey there, I have a question!!! I got the crave since today and I can’t sync it with the other machines I got. I go from midi out from the drumbrute impact to midi in from the crave. It starts to play like the others but NOT IN THE RIGHT TEMPO! May you know why? Can u please help me???

You may need to set the MIDI clock to receive. The Crave Parameters section of the manual tells you how to do it. If you look at the 3rd page of options you want to set the MIDI clock mode to DIN. The other things to look at are the programming tempo input modes, which say how many clicks to a bar, and if I remember correctly playing with the tempo dial can effect the divisions that playback occurs at. Hope that points you in the right direction and have fun with it.

Can I make filter cutoff changes per step ?

Not really, part of the thing with the analogue synths produced here are that all the controls are real time from what I can work out. You could maybe route the CV from the KBCV to the VCF cutoff and that would use the pitch from the sequencer to control the filter cutoff. The other thing you can do is assign sample and hold to the assign output and plug that into the VCF cutoff, but there is no way to program in a CC filter cutoff like you can with a 100% Midi system.

@@DocBolus yes, I like the idea of routing the the keyboard pitch tp the filter. But then, could I control the pitch with external midi ?

@@crgl2009 Yeah I think the pitch would be controlled, but it would also control the notes that are being played. If you had another sequencing module (as in modular synth module) you could use that and plug it directly into the VCF control.

No the 2 sequencers are completely different. The TD-3 is less intuitive than the crave. The TD-3 is kind of programmed in separate parts. So first of all you input the notes, then you input accents, slides and rests if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I last programmed up the TD-3. Channels whose second sentence is "please subscribe" get automatically a thumbs down from me. Also, is it too much to ask to put the synth on the desk such that it sits firmly on the surface and is not rocking at every touch? **facepalm**

Glad you watched anyway and I hope you got something useful out of it. I really need to get a little wedge of paper or blue tack to stop that particular synth wobbling. Apart from the foot pads the thing is incredibly robust. Hope to see you again.
