This is my basic compact tractor snow clearing setup. With snow falling almost daily here, I often find myself out in the cab of my tractor with heat pumping and the radio going. Not a bad setup if you ask me. From the operator's seat, I'm often looking out the back of the tractor as I work my rear-mounted PTO snowblower into snowbank after snowbank. Some people may say that this looks painful and truthfully, after snowblowing for several hours with your neck cranked backwards, it can be. With 3 rear-facing mirrors at my disposal, the neck cranking isn't always necessary and in fact, the addition of my rearview camera makes it even less so. Watch today as I take you through my general snow removal setup for my Kioti DK40 se HST tractor which is paired up with a 78" MK Martin Meteor snowblower with hydraulic-controlled chute. Match that to the stock loader and 72" bucket and you've got my snow fighting setup covered. I prefer to have a bucket available on the loader of my tractor for moving snow banks and clearing snow away from decks and buildings with precision. Glad you're all here! Well made video. No loud music. Nice presentation. I thought that if I had to have a rear push blower, a backup camera would be a good add on. Nice to see someone has one in use. I think you would like an inverted rear snow blower even better. Everyone seems to love theirs. With the loader, you can always bust down an extreme drift.

Well, did it all, 15 years of living in northern Ontario, tried 4x4, tractor with rear blower and bucket, but by far, a blade on front that angles, and a pull behind blower. Most of the time I can push then if I need to I can blow it. Blade cleans up the road after nicely. The driving backwards kills the neck, and if yiu get too close to ditch it will suck you on and then yiur stuck. I never tried a blower in front because I think your they 100% committed to blowing. My tractor is only a 38 hp, I do 3.5 km and several driveways. Best is a heated cab, by far. Just my experience.

Now you're just showing off😁 My snow remover is a 4 wheeler with a little plow. Can hardly turn my head with all the layers on. It was -8F/-22C last night in northern Washington. This is the first winter I've been ready for spring. Nice when you can make a choir fun. Stay warm!

When I used to work on drilling rigs in winter we purposely spread sawdust all over the ground to get traction on ice. It's environmentally friendly so all the green people wouldn't complain. If your sawmill produces lots of excess sawdust you might be able to look into selling it to companies like precision drilling. They were huge in Alberta back in the day. But I do love your setup. Must be nice having a warm cab. 😊. Love your videos.❤

Nice video I live in Manitoba farm country and we can get big dumps of snow but wind is more our enemy. I retired and moved into town from the farm where I always had a 8ft 3pt back up blower. Sold all my machinery and replaced my blower with a CK3510se with a 6 ft. Farm King inverted blower. Then the other day I picked up a 7ft. snow pusher for the front (good price in a on line auction). I well see how things go this winter, I still own the farm yard so have lots of potential use, except last year nobody even put the blowers on. That was nice.

Greetings Sandy, Lee here, I have a Kubota and I had a rear snowblower for 19 years, I was happy with it, but at 70 years it was getting to hard on the back, after watching GP Outdoors and his front blower on one of his informational videos I was convinced that was the way for me to go. I have to admit now that I should have gone to a front blower a long, long time ago. Great video, I like to watch Canadian videos. You and your family keep well, later

Thanks for watching Lee. I find that I use my loader so often with the bucket for clear snow piles and moving logs that I’d hate to lose that if going to a front blower. Hope the winter is treating you well!

That’s a nice setup but, I’ve used a setup like that one commercially. Also had a fairly decent backup camera setup but, the snow kept plugging up the lens so I had to make frequent stops to clear it. The worst thing about that setup is constantly craning your neck to see where you’re going. I ended up selling it and getting a tractor that would accommodate a front mounted snowblower. The best move I ever made. Now it’s a lot more enjoyable to operate for extended periods of time.

Snowblowers are the only way to go when you're dealing with lots of snow. Especially on tight trails with nowhere to stack snow. I'm a commercial motorcoach driver, so I appreciate the skill it takes to drive in reverse with mirrors alone. I've seen pull type snow blowers that mount to the tractor 3 pt hitch and you drive forward while operating the blower. It seems counter intuitive to drive over the snow you are about to clear, but it looks to work great.

Good Day Sandy. Your right it is a beautiful life in the woods and with the setup you have, you cant beat it. I also have the Kioti but the NX6010 model with cab. I can confirm that it is a great working tractor and the cab with the heat and the tunes is the way to go. Finally got some snow here in Southern NB and also have a blast with the snow removal. Keep the vids coming, looking forward to the next.....regards

Those are some gnarly chains and give a smooth ride, alot better than the standard 'H' pattern that give a bumpy ride. Great job on the video

CK3510 here, open station. It was pushing -40 with windchill the other day while I was out blading/blowing. Shoulda got the cab option, but it was another $8K and wouldn't fit in the shed. Got the SB74 rear blower with a hand crank for the chute. 7' blade up front with a poly edge so I don't tear up the road. It's a great combo. Need the 3rd function kit so I can adjust blade angle from the seat. Front blower would be nice, but with the PTO type, you lose the loader. With a hydraulic QA blower, you lose your 3pt to the HPU. For me the rear blower just made sense, and the ability to switch from bucket to blade is important. Kiotis are some of the best tractors out there, and they did a good job with their Tier IV engine/DPF system.

The weather and scenery of your forest are fantastic. The third time of the very first winter I used the 3 pt snowblower (72inches), I knew I will move it to the front (snowblower welded to a skidsteer plate QA to FEL and 3rd function) Out of question to suffer the soar neck. Plus a soft cab with heater. Then, a 72inches rear blade. Be well.

I just got a Kioti CX2510 and can't afford the front mount blower so will have to go with rear for now... I would definitely be interested in your project of converting the snow blower to a front mount with the skid steer attachment. Will you making a video of that?

@@TheStickid01 Good day to you, I don't have any video of the ''making'', that was 8 years ago but I can guide you if you want; A- skid steer front attachment plate for your QA front loader in accordance with the size of your 3pt B- I weld the 3 pt to the front plate attachment to keep everything 3pt stock if one day I do want/need to put it back to the 3 pt (don't/never happen yet ;-) ) C - my snow blower is a New Holland 716C 72'' with a very rare 4 blades fan (usually 3 blades) I had to fabricate a frame/plate/shelf on the right hand side of the blower to install the engine there, fan facing front with too much snow in it sometime (drawback, no choice) I remove/replace the PTO shaft with a bolted gear, using a motorcycle 530 chain, also to the output shaft of the engine with a tensioner in between (engine is a Subaru/Robin EH 72 28hp, sometime not enough power but very happy of this engine) I already have a 3rd function so it drive the rotation of the chute. Hope this help you but with the size of your Kioti CX2510, I don't know the availability/faisability about the total weight vs tractor weight. Regards...

yes sire tire chains are it even with a 4x4 , i run vbars on my l4630 ihave a set for the front but havn't ran into a problem with traction , also chains on the front you have to be more careful i'm tolds , i also mave a 7' power and plow in the front that gets the majority of my time .cool channel and nice set up

It's funny how we do things differently around the world, I dont think I've ever seen a tractor with the snowblower mounted that way where I live, but I see the logic behind doing so. In my part of the world, pull behind V-snowblowers are still very popular as they are cheaper and faster to use in normal conditions, two-stage snowblowers are also pulled behind the tractor or pushed in front, but mostly used on larger tractors.

I've been using our old John Deere 2020 with an Agro trend 7 foot blower for years, and it works great. It's open station though, but I wear a snowmobile suit and it's not that bad. I usually stand on the running board and it allows me to face backwards like driving a Zamboni.

If you get the inverted 68” Meteor blower on that you will be amazed. I had one on my smaller tractor. Just drive forward no sore neck. 😉

Sounds like a great unit. I did look into the forward facing units but my only concern was having to drive through the deep snow before the snow blower got to it. I can imagine in most situations though it'd work out really well

I use a somewhat different approach to snow. It is a simple algorithm. Look outside->if more than 12" of snow then move south->repeat It is beautiful, but I'm allergic to the cold.

Thks for the video - I have an old snowblower that you drive forward with ... it’s ok for little snow but if I got any substantial amount I would need a bigger unit like yours and my road in is 3 kms so backing up that distance would not be fun - lol - that backup camera looks like it might just be the ticket 😉

I need to practice (so I can rely upon my ability) using my mirrors on my somewhat smaller (and cabless) Kioti se throwing snow. It would be bad to not have the bucket for me as well. Definitely experiencing some neck soreness; while i feel fine after a while, and i am 55 but in decent shape, i think that strain now may lead to pain later in life. Writing from Skowhegan, Maine.

You are fortunate to have such a fine tractor, with great attachments. I like the woods, your home, there in Ontario. Do you ever try to garden with your tractor? Does the snow blower run off the power take off. I guess you explained that it goes up and down via it’s hydraulics. Ever haul firewood in the bucket/front end loader? Do you use firewood a lot, gas, electric or all three? Just got to your videos. Thanks for sharing.

I have a Volvo BM 6300 with a front blower quick attached. But you should have had the same rear facing setup as in the Volvo BM 6300. The chair spins around and it is dual controls, so it can be driven from either location. Quite sweet :D

@@sawingwithsandy, yes we do get some pretty serious cold snaps. We have been in a extreme cold warning for a week now. Suppose to get into the teens starting Monday though. Been -35 ish at night for a week now. -27 ish in the day time. Been as low as -50 with the windchill. Gotta love the wood stoves! lol Dad and i just got a sawmill same as yours except the 26. Itching to get using it when it warms up! How is you’re Kohler for starting in -10 to -15?

You can find "used" triple chains from a Semi online..... one side makes both sides for the front tires....There is a slick tool to take them apart and put them back together....just made a set for my John Deere 6400.....It is a fun and easy job to do and would make a good video.....:-))

Next winter: turn it so you can drive forward. That's what we do in Norway. We have it in the 3 point, but the other way so we can drive forward 😊

Yeah I’d like to one day get all my equipment under cover. Keep all the snow and elements off things. Plus it would prevent my stuff from getting “snowed over”

Just a suggestion Sandy but why not use a car reversing camera and a ten or twelve inch screen, I think that would save you a lot off neck and back ache later in life.

Nice but I now know if I ever were to buy a tractor mounted snow blower it will DEFINITELY be a front blower. The hell with driving backwards everywhere.

Yeah it's one of those things to watch for when buying a tractor. Some machines don't have the option of a front or mid PTO but others do and would allow for easy front snowblower.

I never see highway crews with snowblowers that they have to go backwards with, I wonder why they don't have those backward blowers, maybe so they don't have to break their necks using them.

Not my cup of tea. Yeah looking back over my shoulder for 3-4 hours? Not gonna happen. And a regular bucket on snow is a fuel burning proposition moving it into a pile assuming you have a spot for a large pile. I have a front mounted blower and a plow on my atv. Each to his own.

I just wanted to mention after watching your videos on cutting, maintenance, installation of the lap siding attachment ect. I purchased a HM130 max woodlander XL with the attachment. I guess the question around that is there anything I can say to woodland mills for you to get any kind of a kickback $ for all the info and work you’ve provide all of us?

Good to hear back from ya Derek. I think the only thing I’d do differently is maybe add plywood over the legs and on the bottom of the “x” pattern so no pieces fall down into the slab rack and instead it all falls towards the outside where I can pick it up. I’m glad I could help you a long with your sawmill purchase. You’ll love it. I suppose the next time you’re talking to them on the phone or email you could mention sawing with Sandy. I’m not sure whether that would get me a free hat or something but I’d appreciate for sure. Hope all goes well with the setup of your new mill

Sandy, I see it all the time. Can you tell me why 'most' tractors have their "snow throwers" mounted on the 'rear' of a tractor? Couldn't they just as well be mounted up front? Say with a detachable bucket. Even with side and rear view mirrors and "back up camera", still seems hard to navigate!

Good question Arthur. The pto is standard on tractors at the rear of the machine and so it’s often cheapest to have the snowblower mounted there. To mount a snow blower on a loader you’d need a tractor with pretty good hydraulic flow rate to operate a hydraulic snowblower but I’m not sure many compact tractors would have enough flow rate. Some others like me like being able to use the loader and attachments all winter long and so a rear snowblower is most convenient and cost effective

You can have a front mounted pto driven snowblower but the. You’d have to take the loader off which makes it a less than ideal option for me

I have a smaller JD1025R tractor with a front mounted 54 inch hydraulic powered snowblower, which I pair with a box blade on the 3 point for ballast. The box blade is handy with heavy wet snow as you can push or pull with it if necessary. I went this way because of neck issues. It also is easier to watch for obstacles, but the long drive shift and lift angles are hard on the u-joints.

Great video Sandy. How do you set the height of the snow blower? Is there a float function on the 3 point?

Hey Tom! Thanks for watching. There’s a draft lever and position lever in the cab. I just set these levers down to their lowest position and the weight of the snowblower rides over the ground without issue. Unfortunately there’s no down pressure with the 3 pt hitch so the weight of the snowblower is what keeps it planted

Think the windchill was pretty light this day so fortunate there. The woods block the wind pretty good day. Can imagine wide open spaces get some really cold windchills

Hy sandy snow blower on back of tractor this mean you have to drive backward and that make you neck pain. can you not put on front take bucket out ?

Hi, have you noticed if the force of the snow being blown causes any damage to your trees? Not breaking dead branches since those are bound to fall anyway, but how about breaking off bark from the trees? I have pine trees along my driveway and am worried about this before I purchase one. Thank you

Rear-mounted blowers are cheaper, easier to mount/unmount. They are quite popular with people who don't have a lot of area to do. It would be difficult if you have to clear a mile-long driveway. But then, if you have a rear-mounted camera, that is doable.

Back blower allows the front loader to be used still.

I use the bucket until the ground is fully frozen then I use the snowblower

I'd have to say that I've run it over the last 4 or 5 years without trouble on my 40hp engine tractor. I've blown up to about a 1.5' of snow at a time with it and it does a great job
