I commented the other day and I want to comment again and say thanks for all of your effort and beautiful, clear explanations - This channel, in addition to solo instruction, is secretly a great way to learn game design and non-solo GMing generally... Your simple approach is so much better than the flashy "personalities" I've tried to learn from. My plan is to get really good at solo RPG'ing and then begin luring my friends into games once I feel confident in this art of creating an unfolding narrative. I've run half of a D&D module before and while it was fun, my real desire has been to home brew something - until I found your channel I've been totally overwhelmed with where to begin. You rule!!

Thank you so very much. It means a lot to read this comment and I'm glad you find my combo of game play and conversation useful. And homebrewing is great--especially if you are new to GMing... that way you're totally confident on the rules you're using and everything feels 'right.' And the amount of stuff out there *is* overwhelming..! (but it doesn't have to be).

Back in the 80s, my friends and I created rules, tables, and scenarios for something we called "Super Dungeons & Dragons." It used modified AD&D rules and a copy of Outdoor Survival with all counters used. I've been contemplating updating things to "Super Basic Fantasy" and this video certainly inspired!

Love it! I'm really fond of classic B/X wilderness procedure and the weather/temperature tables from the old Mystara country trail maps. No crufty attacks on the character sheet, just logical inferences from the weather. Raining and travelling without a cloak? You'll be wet and wanting to either start a fire at camp if you have the fuel (that will shrink the encounter die from a d12 to a d10) or a fresh change of clothing.

Wow - I love the whole idea of randomizing page numbers and reading - Excellent idea 😄 I love your show - It provides so much info and inspiration for solo gaming 🥰 I do have a question - I want to keep a character diary of her adventures, however I run into the problem of writing 3 pages for one encounter 😕 But I feel like Im leaving too much out if I shorten it 😕 Have you done a video on character diaries? Hellllllllllllllllp!!!! 🥰
@GeekGamers01

One of my main messages about Solo RPG is that there is no “right“ or “wrong“ way to do it. This is another way of saying that if you want to write three pages for one encounter, you should do that and not feel like you need to shorten it. Myself: I do not do a lot of journaling, so as such, I do not have any videos about character diaries.

I've only just started to get into solo paper RPG, and i'm having great fun just learning about different approaches right now. I love how you utilize different charts to help you detail your sorroundings and chance of encounters. I'm also really inspired by how you measure distance and passage of time, by rolling those three different dice for time spent, direction and movement. I've wanted to implenent time, but haven't found anything appealing until now. So many thanks for this video.

I have a question. how do you make it challenge to beat monsters if you (the gm) already know all the rules? dice rolls help but then it just puts everything to chance.
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 5 жыл бұрын
Jarklor Good question. Either you can just leave everything to chance (luck aka dice rolls) and get the enjoyment/ surprise other ways (as I demonstrate here and in other vids) or-if surprise in battle was what you wanted as a focus-you could premake an AI deck of tactics (for example) and draw cards for each encounter. You would then be responding to the monster and whatever tactic. No matter what: playing solo cannot duplicate what you’d get with a GM. It’s a different experience
