My wife has been trying to create a ‘separation’ between myself and golf for years!

I am off 2 and been playing for 35 years. But I think as Am golfers we forget things all the time. Your lessons are so clear it refreshes the Am golfer. I’ve subscribed. Thank you.

Just subscribed after having my eyes opened, and mind blown. I am still awed how in simple terms , you have helped me solve what was holding me back. I just could never could solve how to properly create separation. How naturally it occurs, if you are set up correctly. Man , Russell you should be given Nobel prize! I have read, seen, and tried many things. This seems so concrete, because my game now is so much better. Thanks again Russell.

Thanks Russel for all your helpful videos, I've been working on my game hard over the last month and you've been most helpful .A quick tip for people looking to help their separation game is the dance" let's do the twist " try it lol

that tip about starting the forward body rotation as the backswing is about to climax (and visual of how the pros do it in 5:47 of the video) was a GAME CHANGER for me. I've been working on my swing a lot over the past year but I was always unsure of how to time my lower body movement with my upper body rotation. Now I understand and can feel the proper swing sequence starting with the lower body and I can create consistent power with my swing now. THANK YOU!!!

I watched a lot of your videos and I understood for the first time how my hips and my upper body and the elbow has to move. For me one thing is misseng: I miss an explanation how I have to move exactly how it is ment to be - How am I supposed to move the right arm in the downsing and how do i do the rotation of my arms in the movement of the the ball striking? I would LOVE to see a video where you combine all of your really great tips. Maybe like a 12min video where you lead us through the swing.
@nicholaskutner62624 жыл бұрын
This is the first time I've seen it explained this way, usually you are told you rotate the left hip or stamp the left heel. I tried doing these things and it never felt natural and would mess up my swing. This explanation makes perfect sense and I'm already noticing a difference in consistency and ball striking.

Hi Russell. Thanks for posting this video. I've had a fair bit of coaching as an amateur golfer and I've never had anyone explain separation and hip rotation so succinctly as you. I'm off to the practice range armed with this info!

Great, as always. When turning right and left hips behind you in the hip rotations, what prevents your head from moving away (towards butt and further from ball) when pushing the hips (butt) behind their start position...while weight moves towards right and left HEELS? What prevents head from falling back towards heels while rotating the hips in this fashion as well? Thanks, I’m an addict...
@russellheritagegolf5 жыл бұрын
The correct hip rotation would prevent this from happening but also there could be a degree of spine extension

Thanks Russ, my iron play has improved massively over the last few weeks thanks to your videos, My swing feels effortless and confidence is sky high. However when I try the separation move with the driver, It feels like I get trapped and produce a high right spinny shot, is the driver a different move?
@russellheritagegolf5 жыл бұрын
No same move but you probably get caught behind the ball in the backswing
@dougiemontana48155 жыл бұрын
Russell Heritage ...sounds right, would you suggest a shorter shoulder turn for the time being until I adjust to the timing.
@rickstevens96282 жыл бұрын
Do you think this separation is also feeling like a "body-SQUARING to the target line" as you're starting down or more an upper-body SQUARING/STACKING to the target line which is allowing all the other good stuff to happen as well and then, of course, finish opening and powering through impact from that great tension as you represent towards the end of the video? My point and question being is the feeling of "squaring your upper body" creating that great tension during transition?

Thank You again for excellent Lesson! I have hard time keeping my head not moving toward the target which means ahead of my ball even before I make a contract the ball. As I coming down from back swing, my head goes forward which create missing shots. Please give me some advice. Thank You.

This would be a lack of separation, if you don’t create this move you’ll end up in front of the ball

whats the best drill/feel to get the separation into muscle memory? twisting trail heel towards target is a good one that i know of. what do you think?
@russellheritagegolf10 ай бұрын
No I don’t like this idea of conscious separation. Turn the upper and lower together in the downswing. Separation will occur but not consciously

Thanks for posting! Do you know roughly when the term "separation" was introduced in golf?

I have been following this set of video's and I am particularly interested in the separation of lower/upper body. If I try and swing in a very relaxed fashion and use the hips as the basis of rotation that I can sense the hips leading and the upper body being pulled with a degree of separation. This produces the effect of automatically lowering the right shoulder during the transition so it descends as opposed to initially rotating which could likely result in an over the top move. I would really like your thoughts here Russell to see if I am I on the right track here?

Sounds good

Hello Russel, a little question: I can manage to move my hips when I am at the beginning of the golf swing. But in the moment of backswing, when my shoulders have turned, I find it much more difficult to move only the hips. However, I have verified that my hips are "in the middle" of the legs. In case you have a comment for this, thanks in advance!

Isn't the correct "separation" you go on about creating, the same thing as the "transition"? If not please explain. Degree of separation, disassociation, tranisition a degree of opening? All words describing the same thing? Thanks

Well how do you do it?!?!

Your teaching is great for golfers that have been reasonably good at other sports but struggle with golf. A lot of traditional teaching in the past has been geared to wealthy GC members that have no athletic ability whatsoever! But if you struggle with Russells methods you need to work on your athletic ability/hand eye .In fact anybody over 18 hcp should spend most of their time working on these skills and 10-90 yd shots but they Never Do!

lots of videos. Lots of dialogue. Lots of great content. However something doesn’t seem to fit right for me. It’s like there are some feels or key thoughts in the transition that are being held back in these videos that will actually provide help. Hoping to get swing video over to you and get your feedback. Take care and thanks for content

Russell Heritage been watching your instruction for a few weeks and find the details help my understanding a lot. But!! I am not particularly flexible so it’s hard to actually put some of the movements in place. On several videos now you have mentioned your going to do one with tips for the less flexible but as far as I know it never seems to actually happen. Please keep up the good work and if you can, find time to follow through on your promise.

Great video again Russell. For the life of me, I can't still figure out why I keep moving toward the ball in my backswing (always have). Is it that my left hip is maybe moving incorrectly? Looks like me hip turn mimics my shoulder turn. I've tried everything, focusing solely on the turning into my right hip joint in the backswing, loading up the inside of the right thigh....Any suggestions? Pulling the last of my hair out ;) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZsiZgKiVy9C7hmQ.html

Have you tried messing around with the shift load method. This helps shift weight then create a hip rotation after shifting the weight
