I’ve been printing out multiple images of the stamps to try and see how I could arrange them before I actually buy them. Cause you can do some creative stuff. I didn’t like the idea of them till I saw a few cool ones. Now I’m really into stamping

I love the mallet that's being used. I found this video after trying to stamp some thin leather, with very disappointing results. I didn't know about the need to wet it first. And maybe it's just too thin and I'll have to invest in something thicker. Great video, gets right to the point. Thanks for posting.
@WeaverLeatherSupply5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Marie-Claude! You should be able to stamp the thinner leather as long as it is veg-tanned, you just won't get quite as deep of an impression. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the videos Chuck. If I want to date a project with a month and year stamp (12/2022 as an example), can I stamp the rough side of the leather? Would it be the same process of casing/wetting just on the opposite side? Or could it be as simple as writing the date stamp in sharpie somewhere obscure on the back of a project?

Hi Brian, If it's veg tan leather, then, yes you can stamp it!

I would also recommend you do use that bargain leather he warned against until you get comfortable stamping. Use scraps to practice not good leather.

Very helpful video. I have a leather folio cover that I want to use a leather stamp I have with my logo. As the folio is already assembled, will it be ok to we the front cover and stamp, or will it require me to pull the folio apart?
@WeaverLeatherSupply2 жыл бұрын
We would recommend trying it without wetting it, if you wet only a small spot you run the risk of a water stain when it dries. If you apply enough pressure veg tan will take a stamp without wetting it.

Do you have a part number for the steep beveler? I think you referred to 2 sizes? Unless I got the wrong clip here. . . .

I’m definitely doing something wrong, so coming back to this video :(. I need to strike down with force repeatedly for my stamp to basically leave just the outer shape. I think I’m using the wrong type of leather since it’s taking a while for it to be wet too. It’s definitely not as easy as just one bonk. Will be back if I solve this problem!!!

What if you want to do one of these patterns in an odd shaped border? Like a knife sheath? I see how to use the basket weave in a square but otherwise i am lost.
@WeaverLeatherSupply4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, See if the video below helps, we did a basketweve center and then a camouflage tool around the border. The basketweave itself works best in straight lines and then you can blend in a border stamp around the edges. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7CpfpSgtZipaWQ.html

I'm new to leather work I've tried stamping on a tan piece of leather looks ok until it dries out then it hardly shows, do you reckon it's because of the type of leather I'm using ? sorry not sure what it is. I'd like to make initials on leather with these kinda stamps but I've seen that the circle shape of the stamp tool can leave imprints around the letters. How can you avoid this?
@WeaverLeatherSupply2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nienke, The best way to avoid this is to make sure the stamp is help straight up and down and don't hit it too hard,. If you hit it too hard or too many times, it will press the stamp down past where it needs to go and you'll get the ring imprint. Hope that helps and make sure to do a few practice stamps first.

If I don’t have that tool to stamp it with can I use a hammer?
@WeaverLeatherSupply3 жыл бұрын
You can, but, we don't recommend it because a hammer can mushroom the stamp handle and ruin the stamp. We would recommend either a poly or wooden mallet.
@littlepacificstudios Жыл бұрын
The issues I have faced when stamping letters for a name on a belt is the actual metal stamps will mar the leather if you hit too hard and this is impossible to know and also the stamp will double kiss and destroy my project. Very frustrating!!!! Even the little animal stamps you can ruin your entire project. What I do is pad the leather with a thick piece underneath to lessen the shock when I strike it and also doing stamping first so I don’t destroy project after hours of work. I am saving for a hot emboss machine to get out of manually stamping as far as names with the Tandy leather sets by striking with mallet ever again. Yes they work but it’s really hard and you can screw up your project with ease. I started doing leather like name plates to take that issue away from my project and just using copper burs or Chicago screws. But I don’t like that look as much, it’s ok but prefer the name on the belt. Any advice? Thank you everyone!

I have a gun holster that is finished , it is plain no stamping, can I go back and put stamping on it now?......................................JS*
@WeaverLeatherSupply5 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, We would not recommend this, in order to get a nice, clean stamp the leather needs to lay flat on a solid surface and since the holster is finished you would get a lot of bounce back.
