Well you can just leave our on-air page up. It's a feed of what we recorded that day during our business hours, then it loops until we start again the next day. But we don't do local on the 8's.

But why would the information get lost in the first place? If computers do exactly what you told them to do how does information ever and get lost?

Apologies for the delay in reply. In the context that Don was speaking. The idea is not that the packet is lost (i.e. doesn't know where to go) per se. The computer can know the source and destination but it doesn't mean that it always arrives in a timely manner and sometime the receiving computer may not get it for one reason or another. There are times where packets were dropped along the path.

I guess based on what you guys are saying in this a "Retrasmit" would be like when you hit the "Refresh" Icon if a page doesn't load properly? I already know that an Online game such as "Fortnight", or "Call Of Duty" is something that uses udp.

A retransmit in this case is usually when the receiver doesn't get the packet it is supposed to. The receiver can send a message back to the transmitter to retransmit the missing packet. This occurs with TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) traffic. With the games you mentioned UDP (User Datagram Protocol), UDP doesn't give you the ability to request a retransmit of packets that are missing. They do this to speed the transmission, willing to drop a few packets in favor of streaming.

Can you guys explain this to me... "The function of the modem is to transmit frames across the WAN link, while the function of the router is to forward packets between the local network and the Internet." Sorry for the frequent questions, lately. My exam is coming up!

The MODEM is a connection point of the physical link between the sender and receiver. It changes "data" into "bits" that can then be transmitted on the wire across the WAN carriers network. A router acts a "logical" gateway changing the data frame on the data payload so that it can be forwarded out of the Local area network to the Internet.
