Colby, Your video was amazing. I just built my first layout and had many questions and worries about wiring. Your video explained everything including where to buy the components. Everything went smoothly. Thank You.

Thank you so much for this! Every other tutorial doesn’t actually do the walkthrough of connecting feeders to the bus line. And the T splice method/pack you have makes it super easy

You are 100% correct. I couldn't find very explicit detailed vids either. That was my frustration when doing my research for how to wire. So I just kinda did what I thought made sense and hoped it worked. It does. I am very happy you got some use from my video.

I just saw this video and I didn't know about these connectors. I'm not confident at all in my soldering so this idea gave mme peace of mind. I'm using fastrak that has the tabs on yhe underside to connect my feeder wires on my future ceiling layout which will have 2 loops of approximately 64 feet each. Mth tiu incorporating one or maybe 2 lionel powerhouse 180 bricks.

You just need to get a little practice and gain your confidence. It is very simple; lots of repeating. It will get engrained in your brain after a while. I'm glad I could be helpful.

Nice job, but I'd like to have less of a wire mess underside of the track, but there may be a way to tidy up the wires a bit somehow. I think it's a trade off of having clean hardly noticeable wiring that requires a lot more money and time or having the DIRECT approach you took (while minimizing the time and costs). - I suppose a person could create their wiring like you and later when time and money are available, then maybe try to sort out the wiring one section at a time. Doing it your way allows a person to get the job done the fastest with efficiency and then have fun with their trains. Life is unpredictable and I'd vote to do it your way first (enjoy life and have fun with your trains), then later (if possible and the motivation is there, then try to clean up the wires). Thanks for sharing.

I agree. This may not be the most professional but it gets the job done. As long as I don't look under the table, it isn't even a thought. Thanks for commenting

Colby how are you connecting the drop wires to the track
@PriestBrosLines

I take the atlas rail joiners and solder the wire directly to the bottom of then. Atlas also sells pre soldered ones too but it is cheaper to do it yourself.

thanks for the helpful video! how doyou connect to the track? do you use the commercial Atlas track connectors or a different method, I know there are tons of opinions on the forums. 😄
@PriestBrosLines
@PriestBrosLines Жыл бұрын
I use the premade connectors from Atlas. Although those can get expensive so my brother soldered wire to the connectors and we made our own because that is all that the ones that Atlas makes is. I tried to put feeder wires every 3-4 feet and around switches to ensure connectivity. Thanks for watching.

Do you do additional wiring for switches? Obviously the track isn't continuous there and I'm having some trouble with one of my locomotives losing sound while crossing over the switch. Thanks as always for the informative video, Colby!
@PriestBrosLines
@PriestBrosLines Жыл бұрын
I added dropper wires on all 3 sides of the switch to maximize connectivity. HOwever I do still have sound cut out happen too. Mostly over my x pieces. That mostly has to do with where the plastic parts on the x piece and the pic up rollers land. I've seen people solder wire directly to the frogs on the switches. That might be the best way.

@@PriestBrosLines I might have to do something like that. I only have a problem with my smaller steamers, like the Pacific. I also use the TMCC direct lock-on to manage shorts, not sure if I should start the bus wiring from there since it's directly between the power brick and the track.

I didn't see how you wire the track. Where you actually connect the wire to the track. That's what I was watching the video for based on the title of the video.

You are right. I should have added that. I bought rail joiners with wire soldered directly to them from Atlas. That is what my feeder wires are. If you are confident in soldering, you can make your own with some wire and loose rail joiners. It is a lot cheaper. Thanks for watching.
