I’m a little confused about the н ending. It is often a ний ending but ый is also used in words like красный and чёрный. Is there a rule that governs the ending? P.S. Love your videos!
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Unfortunately, there is no rule when the adjectives take -ний or -ный. However, the masculine -ний adjectives, aka naturally soft, are listed in the dictionary with their soft endings. Therefore, when you learn an adjective in its masculine form, you already know that its feminine, neuter and plural endings are going to be soft. Hope it makes sense.

Very useful and clearly lesson, and i was wondering for example in Genitive, why oe take the plural ых ? Because i know that for plural the endings are ые/ие and use ых or их.
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 6 жыл бұрын
Petro Sasha , in the genitive plural, the endings also have hard and soft variations: хороших, больших, красивых, новых. So it is the same rule as I explained in the video. 😊

Dear Olga: How do you differenciate a male dog from a female dog? For example: If I say: Моя черная собака. How can you know if I have a male dog or a female dog?
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 6 жыл бұрын
Bamboo Buey , the word собака is a unisex word; however, there is a male-dod word - пёс- but it is not used very often and applies only to a very mature dog. Russians differentiate between a female and a male dog by asking questions (if they are really interested): Это она или он? and even sometimes in a strange way: Девочка или мальчик? (girl or boy).

I have a question. она была студенткой. In past tense, noun takes instrumental case. But for adjective ? она была красивая. она была красивой. Which is right ?
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 3 жыл бұрын
kiyoshi Furukawa , if a noun is in the instrumental, the adjective must agree with it. However, sometimes we use the nominative case in the past when talking about permanent things - Она была очень красивая. Всегда! We use the instrumental case when talking about temporary things - Она была очень красивой в этот момент. (не всегда, только в этот момент). Hope it makes sense.

@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 5 жыл бұрын
yousf ahmad , you must memorize 4 endings: masculine, feminine, neuter, and plural.
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 5 жыл бұрын
yousf ahmad , the default ending for masculine - ый (новый). When it is stressed - -ой (большой). А smaller group will take -ий (синий). Spelling rule will affect some (русский, хороший. Practice always helps. 🙂
