Just a tip....When using a One Step Looper and making both ends looped for links with straight wire, ( Not a head pin ) you do NOT have to stick wire all the way through the second hole..you just waste wire that way. You would only stick the wire right past the first hole so only the tip gets cut off.

Do you have a recommendation on just how much to hammer German wire for a hoop that will hold its shape?

What's the difference between memory wire and gauge wire?? How do you make your earrings?
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Memory wire is a "hard" stainless steel wire that it cold forged to hold its shape. It is mostly used for earrings, necklaces and bracelets that need to hold their shape, especially when adding beads. Memory wire requires special stainless steel tools for cutting and bending. A gauged wire will be a malleable wire that is more suitable for wire wrapping and/or bending. Depending on the project and bead size, you would choose a half-hard or dead-soft wire. If a gauged wire isn't .925 sterling, Gold or bare copper, meaning pure, then it will be a base metal with usually a non-tarnish coating. Check out these videos on the different wire types from Susan! All About Different Wire for Jewelry Making: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qqeKechytp7NeXk.html The Basics of Wire Hardness: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdGDeq9i28iyeGw.html The tutorial for the earrings Katy is wearing is coming soon! It's basically placing a variation of long and short eye pins on a jump ring and connecting them to making a dangle earring.

I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong when wire wrapping crystals. I always seem to chip them. Any help would be appreciated. 😊
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! This will depend on the type of crystal you are wrapping. If they are natural, prismatic crystals, then it could be the hardness is low. Crystals like fluorite can easily break if worked too hard. They also can crack with sudden temperature changes and any kind of cleaning agent that isn't mild soap and water. When you get your crystals for wrapping, just do a little research on it before you begin. Try this site: gemstones.com Fluorite, calcite, beryls (aqua, emerald, morganite) are all softer gemstones. You can wrap them, but have to be extremely careful!

What am I doing wrong with my one step looper? Mine never quite forms the perfect loop like you did. 🤔
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool Жыл бұрын
The one-step looper can be a bit tricky. It takes a bit of practice, but one thing is to make sure you leave a slight amount of room between the bead and the looper. That should give your tool enough room to finish the loop with the wire. You may have to go in and manually close it with a chain nose. That just happens sometimes. We like the fact that you don't have to create all the loops by hand, especially on larger projects!

Katy how do I get my necklaces to hang evenly, I hang beads evenly, but they still seem to shift to one side, what am I doing wrong ?
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
From Katy: Hi there! I am not sure what you are asking exactly - are you talking about a necklace or earrings? My guess is you haven’t finished off the end tightly enough - maybe there is extra wire that could’ve been pulled tighter? Happy to help if you give me more details!

Hi! It comes out in a small piece that you can save and use for other things. take a look at the video at this current time code: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f-CbrLKUstysfaM.html You will notice the wire still sticking out of the looper after the cuts it. You just pull that out and save it!
