I was in the Marines, when the school bus pulled into the receiving barracks a Drill Instructor stepped up and said “you have 5 motherfucking seconds to get off this bus and two of them are gone”.

@Rhishazan maruku Mordecai This is the Army National Guard channel. I can't really direct you towards anyone since I'm just an Natty Guard MP, but I'll give you some advice. You should try to come to America and get ahold of a Marine recruiter. I recommend trying to get into shape the best you can, and try to become very proficient in English. You will be expected to run multiple miles, march 3 times more than that, and know how to work as a team.

@Kelvin_Deleon You need to be a "legal resident alien" aka you need to have a Green Card to enter the United States. You won't be an American citizen, but you will be able to enter the country and enlist in any military branch. Since you live in Nigeria, I recommend you go to the nearest U.S. embassy to get started on your process. You will face a few problems with getting your Green Card such as proving you have had your Covid-19 vaccine, that you speak English, and that you have a high school diploma or a diploma related to a high school level like Secondary School. This is the best of my knowledge as a U.S. Marine.

Brings back lots of memories, most good, some not so much, but all of us have those. We all hated our TI's (in the USAF, they were called "Training Instructors") and they had the same hats and attitudes. For 9 weeks we hated them. Then on graduation day, they became the real person underneath they hadn't yet shown to us, and we were so proud of them! Wanted to go to war with just our TI's. Great Job SSGT Lariez, SSGT Massey. 48 years ago....and I bet all of us would still die for those men.

This literally looks like summer camp. DS isn’t even yelling, I guess to give soldiers a chance to actually be louder.

Reception is light compared to basic training bus first day. You don't see that bus ride until about a week or two at reception.

1979 Get off my bus! Now now now!! Move it! Go Go Go!! I've never moved so fast in my life! (No f bomb then - they didn't need it!) and when we shouted YES DRILL SERGEANT!!! You could heard it across the base! Army Strong!

This looks so tame compared to my time in. I can say personally; difficulty in basic equates to ease on the field. "More sweat now, less blood later."

Kind of like the viral videos that get hyped up, but the video is edited so you only see certain parts. This video was edited and when you heard DS say "sir and ma'am", you heard the last part of a sentence because right after his statements they all responded "yes Drill Sergeant". So I interpreted that as him letting all the privates how they will address certain personnel, like officers or civilians.

That was the quietest and most tame reception Ive ever seen. My 8 year old is louder than all of them.

It's the reception battalion...it ain't downrange. I don't care what branch you're from, don't tell me reception=downrange. Seen plenty get dropped from basic not so much from reception.
