May I suggest using painter's tape to outline the area that is visible in your camera so that it's easier to keep your work in frame? That way we can see the entire process instead of missing things that disappear out of frame. Thanks!

Great tutorial Oxana... I'm just starting out and it's helping a lot. I didn't know there where so many gauges. I struggle to get my weaving wire to stay put when I cut it . Any idea where I'm going wrong?. Thank you so much
@OxanaCrafts4 жыл бұрын
like it unravels when you cut it? Is it dead soft? Usually the weaving wire doesn't move once you wrap it around the base wires, but half-hard wire can be springy and hard to work with, that's why I am thinking perhaps you have half hard
@sandrawanless57364 жыл бұрын

Great tutorials! I'm thinking of trying wire wrapping, but was wondering if the copper wires have a metal smell to it?

some people think they do, so I guess it depends on your sensitive to scent. I don't really smell anything, especially after I get them all oxidized and polished up.

Hello, Oxana, Every chance I get I watch some if your tutorials so that I can learn how to do this. In this one you hammered the end of the wire before doing a small loop and the wire looks flat nw. I have tried hammering my 16gauge wire - dead soft - and it does not look like that. I am using a steel platform and a steel hammer. What do I need to do to make this flat? Thank you for your help and please keep making your excellent tutorials.
@OxanaCrafts4 жыл бұрын
hmm.. so it just doesn't flatten when you hammer? It can take a bit of time and effort to get it nice and flat, I know you didn't get to see me actually hammering in the video. Perhaps take a scrap piece of wire and practice hammering that. You can also use a file after to round the edges
@jlucas10044 жыл бұрын

Just wondering if I could use a less thick wire to put around the cabochon?

You can try, but it may not hold it as well. If you try, I would hammer the wire to strengthen it after you bend it into the shape you need.

I made one, but naturally, it's not as nice as yours. When I tried to wrap the 26 gage wire around the base wires, it squeezed them together and then it was impossible to keep the stone from shooting out and finish wrapping the other side and bottom.
@OxanaCrafts7 жыл бұрын
Ahh, that is too bad, you do want to be gentle with the 26 gauge and not pull too hard. I'm sure next time you will get it! :)
@tyedye5717 жыл бұрын
OxanaCrafts You make it look so easy. It's very difficult to hold the slippery stone and wire in place until it's secure enough.
@canzadyblue7 жыл бұрын
I even tried small pieces of painters tape. Results were a warped frame.
@tyedye5717 жыл бұрын
Pam Chewning I think maybe this one is for well experienced wrappers, such a Oxana.☺️ I ended up cutting mine off and setting the stone in a prong setting instead. maybe someday I'll have the chops to accomplish this wrap because I still really admire it.
@canzadyblue7 жыл бұрын
Same here! I was able to get the frame going but the weaving caused it to warp and get out of shape. I tried every weaving wire I could find. I love this pendant and will probably try again when I get over my frustration!!! LOL

BEAUTIFUL...I love your designs...I do have a question though, how do you keep your wrapping wire from breaking? Mine seems to work harden and break...always at the worst point in the design...I do use dead soft, but use rose gold colored filled wire. Thanks and keep up with the tutorials, I have learned a great deal from you!
@OxanaCrafts7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think it just takes a little getting used to the wire, and then it will not beak for you. If it is your weaving wire that is breaking, try being more gentle with it, don't really pull on it too much, more just bend it around your other wires if that makes sense.
@TheLballou7 жыл бұрын
Thank you again...Weaving takes patience and a gentle hand...I'll get there!
@keyemaster7 жыл бұрын
Does the wire scratch the stone?
@OxanaCrafts7 жыл бұрын
it is just sitting up against the stone so it won't, but if you were to try and scratch a stone like this with a wire, it could do that, since labradorites are a softer stone

Are you using a thicker wire for the video? Just asking as it looks way thicker than the 16 gauge I bought from Rio. TIA
@OxanaCrafts3 жыл бұрын
No it is 16, maybe because stone is small it looks extra thick by comparison. I actually got this wire very long ago so it is not from Rio, but you'd think 16 gauge would be same thickness regardless of supplier

that looks more like 12 gauge wire than 16 gauge... unless you have really REALLY tiny hands
@OxanaCrafts7 жыл бұрын
It's definitely 16 because I don't own any 12 gauge and have never worked with anything that thick. But I do have pretty small hand, so perhaps that is why it looks that way!
@milady3d7 жыл бұрын
I do own 12 gauge and no way could you get it to bend like that. But Oxana it does seem a little bigger than the 16 gauge I have. Oh well probably has something to do with on camera or something. Lovely tut. I want to try it.
@Hoolery_Schmoolery4 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing regarding the gauge. Though, I’m 6’2 with large hands, so... I tried this with 14 gauge and it turned out pretty well.

This would have been nicer if you had kept your work in view so that we could see what you were doing...you also need to use different pliers when manipulating that thick wire...you're nicking the heck out of your wire, which ends up with an aesthetically poorer looking piece in the end.
