Basil Hayden Toast is now available across the United States at a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 750mL bottle that comes in at 80 proof. A portion of the bourbon is placed into a secondary toasted barrel and aged for
approximately two months before being blended back with the remaining brown rice bourbon which has been rested in level four char barrels to create Toast.

BH gets a ton of flack for sure, and rightfully so within the whiskey community, but it may have converted more folks into neat bourbon fans than any other pour we’ve ran across. For that reason alone we do appreciate what it brings to the market, even if we don’t ever drink it ourselves. Great review Jason!

You nailed it - It's a $20 value that somehow has a $53 price tag. The only reason I even tried it was because the Old Forester 1910 bottle I went to buy was out of stock, and the "toasted" label caught my eye.

I think of BH as a nooner drink or 6 while doing some house work, something that wont get me too intoxicated to not complete my chores but still give me a buzz while doing it.

Sounds like an easy casual drinker. At home, I still go for OGD 114, but when I'm out Basil Hayden's is a nice go to that I don't have to worry about drinking a couple pours and safely driving home. Sounds like this is similar.

We are doing a blind vertical with this versus Woodford Double Oak, OF 1910, and EC Toasted on our show Tuesday. Will be interesting to see where this lands against those three. Awesome review as always.

I saw this today and was just at my second favorite liquor store yesterday to see what was new. I did notice all of the fancy newly rebranded Basil Hayden but didn't give it too much of a glance because I've always heard it's overpriced for what it is. I'm glad this is a meh so I don't have to go back. For $50, I'll stick to Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. 👍

Got this bottle at Costco for $40. I like it while playing poker with the guys. We go through a few bottles just playing and sipping. But when I'm hanging out with some cigars in hand, the Old Forester 1910 or Wild Turkey is much better.

Phew… picked it up at Total Wine and then thought about if I a really need to 40 proof bourbon for that price. Decided to put it back on the shelf and picked a the Cask Strength Laphroaig 10 year old 😂.

Thanks for the review. I don't like the original Basil 80º. I won't waste my $ on the toasted. For $50 I get the Forster 1920, which is in an all other league.

Avoided BH's since the beginning of drinking whiskey. Is this an answer to scotch in the Asian market? Specifically India and China since Brown Foreman and Diagio are releasing scotches in the 40 proof range?

I revisited Basil Hayden yesterday after drinking mostly 100+ proof bottles that are in my collection. It was just bourbon water for me. I’m not sure I’ll ever buy another BH product as long as it remains 80 proof. I did enjoy the 10 year better but for the price, 80 proof is just not acceptable imo. Not sure when the Toast will be hitting Michigan

I also got the spicy first sip and then nothing but orange afterwards. I could see drinking this on a hot day because of the citrus. Definitely overpriced.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty burnt out on the latest trend to make every bourbon as sweet as possible with the use of "toasted" barrels. I mean, it can work (see OF1910), but it just seems to appeal to America's obsession with sweetness.

Just picked this up, because why not. This is not worth MSRP. This bottle will only come out for non whiskey regulars or shots. Hindsight 20/20, should have bought another bottle of WT Rare Breed.

I got it last week. I felt that it was pretty bland honestly. Almost no nose. It was unusually hot on the back end for an 80 proof. I won't be buying another.

Basil Hayden--ALL Basil Hayden--is to bourbon what training wheels are to bicycles. Good to start off with while you're just getting started and don't want to spontaneously combust by drinking Wild Turkey 101, but I don't have any interest in this particular 80 proofer. It's just kind of unnecessary at this point.

Jeez... Changed the recipe to make it lighter? Any lighter and it'll pour upwards. And for $50 I would hope it contains at least 20% mermaid tears and unicorn farts. Great review... Mediocre product.
