I tried this today with a great result for my first try. I have to be a bit firmer and push the weave tighter, also had a little trouble going from the flat to the sides, so I turned it upside down and it sort of fell apart. A rescue job but it came together. Can’t wait to try again. I live in Bangalow where huge palms grow🌴🤠. Thank you for sharing your skills!

Hi Susan, Oooh, exciting! I'm happy that you have made yourself a basket. I know Bangalow quite well. :) It's exciting finding a large frond and then look forward to a new creative project. I have a video coming up with another creative project to do with these fronds. Hope you get to see it. Happy crafting. :)

Thank you so much. I have wonderful palm trees where I live and have been wanting to weave the inflorescences. You've made the process so clear and are very generous to share your knowledge with us.

@@jaisrita1212 My first attempt taught me alot. I have come back to view the video to see where I could improve. i have tried using inflorescence with quite long plain stalks. Have you tried them? I don' think 22 hours of soaking is enough. The knobbly bits are much softer.
@jaisrita1212

@@rosezanol7591 Hi Rose, No I haven't used them. I have used willow, pandanus palms and artichoke vine, all which work beautifully. When you say that' 22 hours isn't long enough to soak' is this for the inflorescence? Are some parts still firm, but the knobbly bits too soft and break? Does this then make it too short to weave with? Could you clarify a little more so I can get back to you. :) Or if you are meaning only the knobbly bits are soft and the rest is still firm. Yes, soaking longer will help, warm water is best. :)

Hi Jai, Your second to last sentence is correct, the non-knobbly bits are firm and break but not completely. The knobbly bits are soft and pliable. I have soaked the whole piece overnight and the firm bits are still firm so I might just rethink about how to use those bits and start again with another creation. I am not sure I can even use them for the structure of a basket but they are OK for a two dimensional piece to hang on a bare garden wall. I am loving the journey. Thank you for your interest. @@jaisrita1212

@@rosezanol7591 Perhaps a little more soaking in warm water. Or perhaps a very light tap with a small hammer to soften the structure of the firmer spots and then some more soaking? I would love to hear about your journey and where you end up with your creation. If you have time and room to plant choko vines. They are wonderful to weave with. Take care my friend.

+Noam Shahar Hi Noam, My appology I didn't receive the notification for your comment. I soaked these palm fronds until I could bend them without them breaking. If they are fresh you could probably soak overnight. However I sometimes soak for a couple of days. However once out of the water it is best to keep wrapped and moist as they will dry out much quicker than it takes to soak them. Let me know how you went. take care Jai-Srita
