Καταλαβαίνω γιατί πείραξε ορισμένους Παναθηναϊκούς η μετακινηση του ( μέχρι ενός σημείου γιατί κάποια στιγμή το πράγμα είχε ξεφύγει) αλλά το να έχεις την πολυτέλεια σαν ελληνικό μπάσκετ να έχεις 2 θρύλους σαν τον Σπανούλη και τον Διαμαντίδη ( που για εμένα έγινε ο πιο ολοκληρωμένος Ελληνας μπασκετμπολίστας όλων των εποχών) και να τους μειώνεις λόγω οπαδισμου είναι καταντια

In the CSK final moment the now captain got the rebound, gave it to the big man captain in that year and then he passed it to the previous captain to score. Amazing.

I was always amazed by how well he played pick n rolls (the passing part) - he in fact made a name for many centers of Olympiakos. It would have been nice if you had such plays too, because in my eyes they were also extraordinary. He was passing free dunks and he made it look so easy..

Back then, NBA short-minded managers could not admit that an overseas player could reach high numbers. Many Europeans went for a season or two and then returned to the Euroleague. I was young back then, so I can't remember the reason. It could be the overall performance, but come on, give players some time to adjust. Spanoulis evolved to be the best playmaker in the Euroleague. Not only did he drive to the basket anytime he wanted, but he also had a great percentage in 3s. He retired on 2021, and was 1st in overall points for 3 years until only now Mike James surpassed him, and he is still 3rd in overall career assists. I mean Llull and Rodriguez still play only to surpass him in points. Terrible management by Houston Rockets back then.

The team was treating him like young rookie when he was already big star ,he dint play a lot, he had a failed coach .Popovic want it him but you know spanoulis cant have a second role...

Some of them did but Van Gundy - eho was not coach when they chose Spanoulis -was not pne of them. Van Gundy believed Euro players should stay in bench first year. He had issues with another player as well dont remember who. But the American-Serb of the Spurs which wanted Spanoulis second year was great for since that coach knows both NBA and Euro basketball, so the second year was Spanoulis mistake to ask to break contract but he was very angry.

I think its quite evident that this guy has learnt basket from the very best coaches in the world. You can tell his game understanding is very high by how nicely he explains it. Only through deep knowledge you get to deliver the message that clearly. Have really high hopes for the cooperation between Vspan and Giannis in the national team.

Spanoulis (2.7 ppg in the NBA) is so overrated. His accomplishes in Euroleague are accomplishments in a 2nd tier league. In the big boy league he was 2.7 ppg. Everyone keeps mentioning that ONE game against Team USA, but forgets about the very next game, the biggest game of his career, the 2006 FIBA World Championship gold medal game against Spain without the Pau Gasol (the tournament MVP) Spanoulis went 1-10 scoring a measly 4 points. Or how about the 2012 Olympic Qualifying tournament when Spanoulis got his game winning shot BLOCKED and Greece was ELIMINATED by Nigeria?!!! Probably the only time a European NT has ever been eliminated by an African (or Asian) NT in a knockout round of any tournament.

@@user-um3yc9xu2z I know you're joking. By better with better players? Yes NBA is 100x better then Euroleague. Kemba Walker? He was washed up before he went to Euroleague. Euroleague MVPs are bench warmers in the NBA. Just look at any all-tournament team in a FIBA Competition and the majority of them are NBA players. Saying Euroleague close in talent to the NBA is much more delusional then saying that the CBA is on pair with Euroleague.

@innosanto I'm a little young and I don't see for first hand Galis Era. But I see many games (all the game, not just highlights) from this era like: Aris final 4 of 88' 89' 90' Aris games with: Jugoplastiga, Olimpia Milano, Maccabi, Barcelona and also derby with PAOK. Also I see many games of Greek National Team of 87 & 89 and other. My final opinion is that Spanoulis is better than Galis.

He is better than McGrady and would be better in NBA as well. They didnt tey to use him. The coach that chose him in the team was not Van Gundy and rhen Van Gundy came who believes that European players ahould not play their forst year. Then Spanoulis imo made mistake to refuse to play with Spurs the second year.

It's about consistency night in and night out against the best competition in the world. He's greatness is against lessor competition. Anthony Parker was a great player in Euroleague, in the NBA he was average.

This is the guy that will save Greek basket-ball. The next 30-year "basket-ball man" in the likes of Faidon Mathaiou, Giannis Ioannidis and Panagiotis Giannakis. For all the greatness he acheieved as a player, he will be more infuential as a coach. He is taught by some of the greatest (Duda, Zeljko) and his mind is only basket-ball mode...
