This video shows how to take apart and service a Bass Pro Formula 40 spin fishing reel. This reel got swamped in a hurricane and the video discusses what to look for as you go to restore a reel that has been dunked or soaked through a mishap.

Thanks for the idea! Not much to compare. The reels are essentially the same reels with the 16/0 having large capacity - I don't have these in the shop. If I get the opportunity to do the video, I will. - Dennis

I would remove the plate that houses the bail spring. Water gets trapped in there and bail spring rusts, had it happen on a 1000 size quantum that was dropped.

Dennis - I have a BPS formula 40 spinning reel that I took apart and now can't get back together. I watched your video but the part of the reel I need help with is not shown in the video. It's part of the bail where the dead-point spring. slider and link are. It's the link (small S-shaped metal part) that I can't figure out how to put back. Also, is there a trick to keeping the spring in place while you're putting the reel back together? Any assistance you can provide would be most welcome. Tony

Dennis - just wanted to check to see if you received the photos I sent. I've continued to attempt to put the darn thing back together and I can't find a configuration that works. It is definitely related to the bail spring as the bail doesn't automatically spring closed. I've got a diagram of all the parts and generally know where they all go but I can't seem to connect the spring in the right place to trigger the bail to close.@@2ndChanceTackle
