The Bass Talk with Maxwell’s All Stars featuring The legendary Abraham Laboriel & the funkster Pee Wee Hill on dueling bases. After the overwhelming response to their pervious bass off, called The Bass Walk the band wanted to make a new video on the dueling basses theme. Michiko Hill and Pee Wee wrote the tune and after a quick run-through, we laid down this track in one take.

Always a pleasure to hear seasoned musicians complementing each other and nor just trying to out riff or play one another. Nobody here has to make a name, so they just make music...love it!

I had the pleasure of spending a couple of weeks with Abraham when my partners (at the time) and I brought Johnny Mathis to Australia and Abraham was one of the musos who came with to support him. I have to say Abraham was the most gentle, humble, honest human beings I've ever met. I'm sure that anyone who has ever met him would say the same thing. I am sad we never kept in touch. There are very few people in the world who exude such a beautiful vibe. Stay safe and well Abraham..

I'm not sure I'd call this a bass duel, as that implies competition. Pee Wee and Abraham are both top bass pros, with complementary styles. They aren't trying to cut each other. I love the look on Abraham's face when Pee Wee is playing funk bass, like "Yeah! Lay some funk grooves on me, brother! I can take off from there and fly!", and he does. And the whole group just melts down in happy laughter when they finish. "Yeah! We nailed it!" Oh, boy, did they.

These two phenomenal bassist made me change from classical guitar to playing full time bass and i'm loving it everyday!! Absolutely love it!!!

Bill Maxwell has produce some of the best gospel artist from Andre Crouch, to the Winans and many more, theme songs for television shows, my dad was a professional radio jock, so we lived on vinyl that’s how I know this info,& and all these players played on projects for him. Light records, Sparrow, Quest, to name a few. Still good to see these old timers jamming🙏🏾😇🎹🎶

Been a fan of everyone of these people in the room for 30+years sadly have never seen them live. They make this look so easy and relaxing but I know there are few if any who can play like this. God is good

Did you know that originally Abraham studied guitar but because he has an anomaly in one of his fingers, which made playing some chords difficult, he changed to the bass.

Growing up listening to gospel music, I would look on the back of the album and if I saw Bill Maxwell’s name, I knew that album was going to be good.

I swear I wish y'all could hear this through my "Old Skool" Sony ES system with the separate sound processor running through three separate Sony ES amps (1. 300 subwoofer, 2. 150ea Bose 901w ea., 3. 4 channel (center and rears) all set for maximum bass response, clarity and spacious...sounds like you're sitting right in the room with them.
