Bassem Youssef, a former heart surgeon, grew to prominence by hosting the satirical news program “Al-Bernameg” in Egypt, which captured the world’s attention during the 2011 Arab Spring. The success and influence created by that show garnered Youssef recognition that crosses borders and languages. He has been proclaimed the “Jon Stewart of Egypt,” named one of the "100 most influential people in the world" by TIME magazine. Join Youssef for a discussion about his new Fusion web series and TV special ““The Democracy Handbook with Bassem Youssef.”

English is second language could be a great segment on his show. Particularly if you consider how some Trump supporters speak.
@SylversVolpe
@SylversVolpe 8 жыл бұрын
Hell, Trump himself would be an ideal candidate for such a segment. That man has no vocabulary. He knows like 3 or 4 adjectives that he keeps repeating over and over and over, entirely out of context 80% of the time. The man has the vernacular of a 3 year old. And I say this as a middle easterner for whose English is a second language.

why you didn't mention that he was forced to leave Egypt because he was threatened by the made-in-USA military coup authority?
@tgtaa
@tgtaa 8 жыл бұрын
Well, there is actually a controversy regarding this matter. Both the pro-Sisi and pro-Morsi folks claim the US is working and conspiring against them, yet neither camp is packing its claims with a solid evidence!
@yaserbatal6474
@yaserbatal6474 8 жыл бұрын
+tgtaa the Egyptian Army is made-in-USA... it is a secular anti Islamic army.. and it was the leader of the coup which brought Sisi to power.. The united States government refused to deal with Morsy while they blindly supported Sisi , sweeping all of his crimes under the carpet
@tgtaa
@tgtaa 8 жыл бұрын
Oh, yeah! So much for a solid evidence! Particularly with Egypt's new military dictator, Sisi, being in bed with Russia's Putin! The hardcore secular Egyptian military being in power is why people are currently jailed for blasphemy in Egypt. By the way, it is rather amusing to watch a fair non-opportunistic Islamist going all against secularism, despite the secular political system is the very much thing recognizes his own freedom of belief, should he decide to immigrate, and despite the secular liberals are the ones fighting discrimination and bigotry against him! www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2013/07/03/statement-president-barack-obama-egypt www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/2013/08/15/remarks-president-egypt www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/09/us-cut-aid-egypt-obama-morsi
@vierri5000
@vierri5000 8 жыл бұрын
+tgtaa Let me get this straight So El Sisi is cool with putin And at the same exact time he's backed by USA and on top of that he's a dictator Yet he's not superman If someone got the abilities to be loved by the majority of the Arab nation and still kept his relationships with the toughest dogs out there then he indeed needs to be a president Being a leader requires leadership skills that MBH lacked MBH don't and have never cared about the sovereignty of Egypt and Egyptians,to them Egypt was just a piece of ass they were trying to tap that's all disregard the people
@tgtaa
@tgtaa 8 жыл бұрын
President-elect by 90+%, brutal street killing of pro-Morsi protests by hundreds, death sentences by hundreds, a power grip over the media, political prisoners, banning demonstrations, human rights abuses by police and people jailed for disturbing morality, blasphemy and homosexuality. Oh, yeah, he fits the criteria of a dictator perfectly! I did not say the US backed him. In fact, Moscow was the first foreign port of call for Sisi after he ousted Morsi. There was symbolism to that. It was clearly an answer to US. As I said earlier both pro-Morsi and pro-Sisi folks claim the US is conspiring against them! A dictator has no abilities to lead only power to oppress!

I've always agreed on most of the issues he previously spoke about whether here in the US or back in Egypt Yet I still do disagree on his criticism towards the current Egyptian regime and its not because he's wrong,its solely due to the timing of the criticism Egypt was at that time where he was fucked with needed a strong leader and institutions to keep things going or else Egypt would've been Syria 100 times worse Other than that I support him He already got the publicity from criticizing El Sisi,he's got to move on

Millions of people made fun of Obama even though he took power during troubling time (Bush's mess) If you want a dictator don't let anyone criticize him, the time will never come when your country is fully stable, they use this notion to rule for ever.
@vierri5000
@vierri5000 8 жыл бұрын
+Moody Caplan Obama had a different scenario It was wall street and banks messing around Egypt in fact had extremist radicals with an agenda to transition Egypt to something it has never been Egypt has always been a secular country when it comes to politics MBH and extremists Islamic militia was not the answer to the chaos in Egypt Bassem yousef should've waited for a bit more since he did help getting the MBH ousted Bassem yousef got his green card according to him because he was on the top 100 on the time magazine I highly doubt that,the US don't give people residency because someone wrote about them in a magazine I really wished he didn't lie
