Bassem Youssef On Will Smith: "Chris Rock's Revenge Was $40 Million From Netflix"

Piers Morgan Uncensored

Piers Morgan Uncensored

Жыл бұрын

Piers Morgan is joined by comedian Bassem Youssef, columnist Madeline Grant and TalkTV contributor Paula Rhone-Adrien to discuss Chris Rock's recent Netflix special, in which he discusses the infamous Will Smith slap at last year's Oscars and whether comedy can be cancelled.
Bassem begins by explaining that Chris Rock got his revenge on Will Smith by signing a $40 million contract with Netflix for his stand-up comedy special. Piers suggests however that many people would feel outraged and perhaps slap someone mocking their wife's alopecia. Madeline counteracts that violence isn't the answer and that Will Smith should have been a better example to his children.

Chris handled this situation without dignity or grace. His behavior was distasteful because he put himself on the same level as Will Smith by resorting to a different type of violence. Chris is proving himself unable to be the better person in this situation, and those who cheer for him are equally disappointing. While I don't necessarily support Will's actions, I believe that Chris's decision to retaliate and resort to violence only gives Will an excuse to justify his behavior. In my opinion, a better approach would have been to let Will feel the weight of his actions and eventually come to regret them, wishing for Chris's forgiveness. Making an aggressor suffer through their own regret is more effective than externally trying to destroy them.

If Jada would have been thinking on her feet, instead of sitting on her sad--then she could have taken the opportunity to approach a Hollywood producer about possibly staring in a remake of G.I. Jane. That’s what I call a missed opportunity. 😏

@@evelynejeka7182 Chris Rock was hosting the Oscars. Comedians always host the Oscars because it's part of their job to make fun of the celebrities who attend. Jada and Will were sitting in the front row, so of course Chris was going to crack a joke at them. He was doing the job he was hired for.

Like Jim Carrey said - words were said, Will should have replied with words. This was an assault. And the shameless crowd applauded Will later. No one stood up for the person who got assaulted. Why? Because he was not a superstar? There was no justification for the assault - especially since the comparison was a compliment. And as a person who has suffered from alopecia - Jada appears to have shaved for whatever other reason.
