Egyptian-American comedian Bassem Youssef spoke to LBC’s James O’Brien on Saturday, where he stated among other things, that western media has allowed Israel to get away with their crimes against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. He emphasised that it doesn’t matter what crimes Israel commits because “they will always have a justification”

You are so clearly right Bassem. Thank you again for having the courage to speak out. What I cannot come to terms with, and probably never wil, is this. When someone loses a child here in the West, it is considered to be the worst thing a person will ever have to live through. As it happens I agree with this. Having lived through the sudden death of my beautiful oldest grandchild at the age of eleven years, from a cerebral aneurysm. I know that her loss has broken the hearts of her parents, her siblings, myself and my late husband and the rest of our family. It also deeply affected many others like her young friends, teachers, and friends of the family. It is a cruel bitter blow that is impossible to fully recover from. So why is it that there appears to be people like members of the Israeli government and their supporters, members of other governments, in the USA, UK, other European governments etc, that appear to think that the pain of losing a child if you are Palestinian is not as bad as if it were themselves. Why is that? How can anyone have no regard for the lives of children, or are indifferent to their death, because of where they live in the world? Is one child really more worthy of life than another, based on their address? Isn’t that what is called fascism? I just cannot understand why people think that Palestinian mothers and fathers for example, do not mourn their children”s death as anyone else would? Why do people think that their pain and sense of loss is any less than ours, here in the West? Isn’t that called racism of the highest order? Just to reinforce my deep concerns about these issues…just think of those we know in positions of political power who have lost children. There are numerous, both in the UK and USA to my knowledge. I am sure there are other governments that also have politicians who have experienced this dreadful loss. So WHY do these politicians who know exactly what it is like to lose a child, support the killing of children in Palestine? These are the people who have a strong, powerful voice, and could support Palestinian families who are losing their children by the thousands. I can only assume one thing. That These people do not think that the bereaved families of Palestine suffer the pain of loss as ‘we’ do. This I’m afraid is called racism and fascism, isn’t it? Teresa.
