Ray Scott, founder of B.A.S.S., changed the fishing world with his idea and creation of the Bass Angler Sportsman Society. In this documentary series you'll see how Scott's vision played out across the country and world. In the 1980's, B.A.S.S. exploded with the addition of consistent TV presence.
Episode 2 of The Cast highlights B.A.S.S. in the 1980's.
Enjoy an additional interview with Larry Nixon at the end of this airing.

Bring that old bassmaster song back! Keep the current classic music but find a place to put that old bassmasters intro to live. 🙏

It's always interesting the difference between how anglers view the Classic vs the marketing and public opinion. Ask 100 random people if they remember an angler of a year vs have they heard of the Classic and nobody remembers the AOY. But it's so important to the actual people in the sport.

I've followed B.A.S.S. since I was a kid! Was a BASS member, always looked forward to the next issue of BASS magazine, loved to watch the tv end of it and still watch today along with the magazines! The Cast is a great trip down memory lane, love it!

Truly deserving of that mention...the late David Wharton (with the "Wh" sound to start his last name). Thanks, Larry and thanks B.A.S.S. for this series! I was fortunate to fish with both David and "Whiteshoes" Torian!

Met Larry at anglers choice in va around 2010. My dad had terminal cancer and Larry was so nice to him, they talked like old buddies the whole time. I love the cast, I constantly watch 80s n 90s BASS tournaments. Thank you!

Being at B.A.S.S. event in the 80's was legendary. Nixon, Brauer, Hibdon, Elias, Martin, the names go on. The General will always be at the top of the list! #ozark strong

I can remember watching BASS on Canadian television in the 80’s and thinking, what is this hype about a little green pickle all about. All these years later, being a fishing guide for Salmon, steelhead and Sturgeon, I spend all my free time, watching Bass videos and fishing for these Pickles on my days off. Maybe it’s the lore BASS helped create, maybe it’s the long list of quality people the bass fishing world has given us, or maybe it’s just the sporty behaviour of the species. I still absolutely love catching Steelhead, but in the back of my head, I see myself walking the bank of a local slough, pitching into the wood and pulling out another 5 pounder, like a 10 year old kid.

Do this with every living angler they have from 70’s,80’s,& 90’s I wanna hear all the stories. This is truly golden. I’d like them to be a little more unfiltered to. I wanna hear the good bad ugly and almost violent. My local club tells me stories of old about fights almost happening so I can imagine what the pros have gone through in days of old!!! 😂😂 WE WANT MORE!!!!!

@@BassmasterOfficial every single one!!! Also as a favor to me could you all get in touch with Alfred Williams I’d love to hear his story on being a pro, & fishing in the hay days of BASS… From what I know he’s the First African American Pro To Fish BASS. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. But I’d love to hear the good bad and ugly of his journey.

The good old magical day of BASS are long gone. If BASS would start to do the mystery lake for the classic. Most of the anglers of today wouldn’t know what to do. This is what made the heyday of BASS more special

Please make one about Jack Wingate. I knew him before he passed , he was a great man. My friend Gizmo and I were only 19 and a fairly decent tournament just blasted off, we came in to get breakfast right after since we were checking livewells. We both said good morning Mr. Jack. He took his eyes off his paper and looked at us like we were silly. We both said what did we do. He smoked and said I can't believe you two aren't fishing the tournament. Mr Jack we don't have the money for it we said. He gave us a stern look and voice and said I do, all you had to do was ask, I've been watching you two boys fish the bank and I'd put up the money just to watch you compete. We both looked at each other and smiled with pride because a true legend of the sport just acknowledged us with high praise of our fishing skill. There's a bass club down there called the Hydrilla Gnats Bass Club, some of the best fisherman I know including my buddy Gizmo and myself fished with them. Jack Wingate was our first honorary member. I'll be 38 this year. Thank you Mr. Jack just for believing in two lost young boys trying to find a place in the world. I will never forget the man, the legend, the Sage of Lake Seminole, Mr. Jack Wingate.

Jack Wingate and his Lunker Lodge were synonymous with Lake Seminole. As well as Mr. Tommy Shaw was the man most associated with Clark's Hill. And Mr. Junior Collis ,who was synonymous with Lakes Oconee and Sinclair

I was 5 years old in 1978. I remember playing "hookie" from church with my dad to watch the Sunday morning fishing shows on the DFW channel 11 Station. Bill Wallace, Jimmy Houston, and Bill Dance. I never got a chance to meet Bill Wallace I have shaken hands with Jimmy Houston and Bill Dance. I thank the Bass Master Classics of 2013 and 2021 for that chance.

What a great series looking back at this sport. It's nostalgic to see these films. Keep em coming. P.S. these anglers did this with skill not technology i.e.live scope or front facing sonar. Keep that in mind. 👍
