66 turns puts Jonny vs Zach as the 4th longest match out of 7 in season 13 Hardest trick attempted: back foot varial heel (50% success rate) Giger landed in season 12 round 1 against Jamie who missed, and again in this match against Zach who also missed (kinda) Hardest trick landed by both skaters: fakie impossible (47.83% success rate) Previously landed fakie impossibles: Eric Koston season 1 round 3 turn 15 against PJ Ladd Greg Lutzka season 2 round 1 turn 9 against Lucas Puig David Gonzalez season 4 round 1 turn 46 against Cory Kennedy Mike Mo season 5 championship turn 58, but PJ Ladd defended successfully Eric Koston season 6 round 1 turn 27 against Dennis Busentiz Eric Koston season 6 round 2 turn 44 against Morgan Smith Eric Koston season 8 round 2 turn 47 against PJ Ladd Tyson Bowerbank season 11 round 1 turn 21 against Cody Cepeda Zach Doelling season 13 round 1 turn 36, but Jonny defended successfully Easiest trick that gave a letter: Yup, you guessed it, the switch FS shuvit, which is 86.75% successful on defense out of 83 attempts, gave Jonny Giger letter S This was statistically the easiest game to win so far, in terms of average offensive and defensive consistency rates combined, with the average historical success rate of the tricks in this match being over 80% (mainly from all the shuvits)

Yeah, Jonny isn't the most consistent at some "basic" tricks that Zach has 98% of the time, especially switch. Jonny went for blood early with that backfoot varial heel thing no one else does (I love that trick btw), but as soon as he went on defense I was like "oh boy, he's in trouble."

@seanylewl
@seanylewl Жыл бұрын
@@FREEM1ND I think Jonny knows what his weaknesses are - nerves and fatigue. For him, his best bet is to end the game as fast as possible - he can't do all his crazy stuff at the end of a long slog of tricks. Going for the super tech knock out punches straight up was a good strategy - unfortunately Zach knew his weaknesses too, and exploited them to the fullest. This game was a wonderful demonstration of how important strategy is.
@Thenny773

@FREEM1ND
@FREEM1ND Жыл бұрын
@@seanylewl point taken! My only rebuttal would be, as we saw, one mistake means that Jonny loses control and someone can exploit those weakness. High risk high reward I suppose. Zach came in ready to win. Jonny thrives on the grind, lots of joy in his skating. He's not necessarily built for competition, doesn't really take it super seriously. Not a knock against him though, I think he'll always be my favorite flat ground skater.

I like the fact Jonny went for hard tricks from the get-go, you don't see that often. It makes sense to do those when you have all the stamina. Zach played it real nice too, progressive from easy to bangers.

taken out with switch hardflip again lol. damn, i really wanted to see Jonny in the finals and he gets a boss on the first round again. Zach did like 25 tricks in a row, wth man.

YES!!! As much as I love both of these guys, I know how much of a dark horse Zach is and how consistent he always is. I didn't do a bracket, but if I did I would have had Zach going far and probably hitting Tyler P in the semis (I think they are on the same side), I hope this becomes a reality, that will be a great showing.

I love how there’s so many strategies to win a game of SKATE. You can go all out in the beginning, start off slow with the basics and build your way up, you can get technical and pull out so freestyle tricks, etc. Here we see Giger trying to get technical, but as soon as he missed, Zach stayed true to his slow start strat and stay consistent. Zach didn’t miss one trick when he was on the offensive. Good stuff
