Fascinating! The Lower Guinea St Bridge replaced the old lift bridge which carried the railway line over the entrance to the Basin. At one time, the former wide gauge GWR tracks could still be seen at that spot. Does anyone remember seeing 'Harry Brown' - the sand dredger - entering the Basin to unload at the quay where the lightship now is? I do, a memorable sight.

Hi John, Thanks for watching the videos. I'm thoroughly enjoying reading your book especially the writings and photographs of Greville Smyth park, having spent many, many hours there myself. Another great interest for me was the mention of Anton Bantock, he was my history teacher at school in the early 1960s. A well remembered real character. Regards Les at west country scenes

@@westcountryscenes6881 Hi Les - I'm glad you're enjoying the book! I knew Anton well enough to ask him if he'd like to do a few sketches for it and he was so pleased to be asked. Such a lovely person and a great local historian. I assume you know that a section of the south Bristol ring road was named in his honour. By the way, Redcliffe Bascule Bridge is still in working order, thanks to recent renovation works. With best wishes - John

Interesting, I haven't visited that part of the docks.
